It was a hard night's sleep for Steve as his swimmer's ear became very painful, which then required an urgent care trip in the morning to get antibiotics pills plus ear drops. Everyone was also up very early, which was going to make for a long day considering the plan in the afternoon was to drive to Honolulu to order special Portuguese Malisadas from Leonard's Bakery and see Tory's cousin Dave at his restaurant, Pint and Jigger. Tory, Susie, and George entertained the kids all morning in the pools and waterslides while treating them to some much-deserved treats of Mickey Cookies. The kids had a tasty lunch of the minion-shaped chicken nuggets that Tory bought earlier in the week, one of the thrifty ways to save money on the vacation of grocery shopping for some meals ... read more

We took an early Uber to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. The bags went through USDA screening. No agriculture products! We passed the inspection. We checked in and then we went through security. We grabbed some coffee and breakfast and then waited at our gate. Plane was on time. We flew through L.A. and had a short layover. Our flight to Chicago was on time and no issues. We landed in Chicago. Our bags were on the carousel when we got to the baggage claim area. We grabbed the bags and then we found our way to the hotel transport van pick up area. We only had a short wait. It was a short ride to the hotel and then we headed to the parking garage to try to remember the location of the car. ... read more

Another beautiful day in Hawaii. We had breakfast at the hotel. We walked around the Ali Wai Boat Harbor after breakfast. We looked at the fish we could see swimming next to the boats and piers. We also saw some eels. We walked past the area with the surfers getting ready to head out. We were picked up by Heidi Uber and the Hardy Boys. We drove to the Dole Plantation. We went on the Train ride through the pineapple fields and then did the pineapple maze. The shrubs were in the shape of a pineapple with more maze around it. We found all the hidden stations. We had pineapple ice cream and then headed to the north shore. We found a parking lot full of food trucks and had some lunch. Next we went across ... read more

A beautiful sunny island day today. Breakfast at the hotel club. Pedro really likes the purple doughnuts. Had the miso soup today with tofu and seaweed. Not a typical breakfast for those of us from the midwest. Big waves today and the number of surfers is crazy. Has to be 50 surfers off shore on the west end of Waikiki Beach. After breakfast we took a walk through Ala Moana Regional Park to Magic Island. Busy place with walkers and runners. Scuba lessons in the little lagoon by Magic island. There was a better view of the surfers. They were all congregating and waiting for the perfect waves. Saw some successful and some that need to perfect the skill. We had a tour scheduled with Pink Sails Whale Watching. It sets sail from yacht club right ... read more

Again, very interesting to all you scientists and geographers out there. Revision for us as came through the canal returning from S America in 2018. Never ceases to be fascinating how canal was constructed. Originally baby of De Lessops, (Frenchman who managed the construction of the Suez Canal )with some input from his son and Monsieur Eiffel too . Thought would be able to dig out land and go through at ground level like Suez but it was an elevation of 210 ... read more

Woke up to sunshine and warm weather. Breakfast at the club today included fried spam! Spam sushi was also available. Fresh fruits. Fresh pastries. We were joined by 2 little birds at the empty chair at our table. We took the real Uber today to go to Pearl Harbor. Arrived at about 9. Had to have bag rental for $7 for the camera case. NO BAGS at all and the camera case was considered a bag. We did not have ticket for the boat to the Arizona reserved ahead so we headed to the "stand by" line. We heard there is sometimes a long wait so we got there early. We were on the 9:15 boat to the USS Arizona Memorial. The boat was not full and after a short briefing about the Arizona we were ... read more

Another rainy day in Oahu. Breakfast at our hotel club was good again today. Spam and rice sushi was Pedro's favorite this morning. We had a quick dip in the hot tub. It was cool and there was a heavy mist, close to a drizzle. If you are from cold areas of the country it was still a good hot tub day. Heidi Uber picked us up today. We headed back to the base and got our base passes. It was kind of like going to the DMV to get a license. Pick a number. Fill in the form. Wait until called. Turn in the form. Wait for background check. Get picture taken. Get finger printed. Wait again for the printed pass. It took about 1.5 hours. Parking lot had signs limiting parking to 1 hour. ... read more

We woke up at our usual early time despite the time change today. We were excited for our first day of our touring. We had breakfast at the "club" at our hotel and had a typical breakfast of eggs, sausage, fresh fruits, pastries and yogurts. After breakfast we took a swim in the pool. It was cool and misting so we had to pools to ourselves. We went in the infinity pool first, then the main pool and then finally sat in the hot tub. The water in all of the pools was warm compared to the air temperature, but we spent the most time in the hot tub. After our breakfast and pool time we took a walk down Waikiki Beach. Lots of birds. Lots of surf shops. Light mist during the walk. Lots of ... read more

Drove to Chicago the night before our flight to Hawaii. There was snow during the day and several major pile ups on the interstate during the day. The roads were all clear by the time we were driving. Roads earlier in the day were sketchy with slippery patches. Pedro had picked up Kasie earlier in the day from college as it was time to take the stitches out after her surgery to fix the humerus. 16 days post major open reduction with internal fixation of the right dominant arm. She has been doing well and she has been doing her exercises regularly. She is doing well and getting really good motion already. Always nice to have a faithful patient doing all the exercises correctly! We were up early to catch the shuttle from the hotel to ... read more

Aloha for the last time from Hawaii….all good things must come to an end I suppose!!! It’s Sunday here and it was a cooler, cloudy day…a day when again we didn’t do a lot really. Joy was ‘desperate’ to get some of the skin care product that she likes to use but it is very expensive to buy at home and she ‘missed’ it on our first trip to the Waikele Outlet Centre, even though she purchased a heap of other ‘stuff’ of the same brand at really good prices. So around 10.30am after a rather lazy start to the day (well it is Sunday after all) we headed out to the Outlet Centre again and managed, this time, to get the correct product at a 2 for 1 price (under half what she pays at ... read more
