November 28th 2011

Well 'That's It'!!!! Our 2 month journey has ended and we are back home in sunny Waipukurau raring to get back into working life again!!!! Anyway, we last left you just before we boarded NZ38 for our flight from Hong Kong to Auckland. I've had a complaint that tere were a lot of spelling mistakes in that blog and I apologise for that. I was crashing it out on my IPad sitting at a table in the dining hall at the airport while drinking a diet coke and we had a very short time before we had to travel the considerable distance to our gate for boarding. So it was a bit rushed. For those who haven't been to HK airport, it is so huge that after walking for what seems like miles through the terminal, ... read more

Sorry about the mess that the last blog turned out to be but totally beyond my control. Hopefully this short one will go through with no problems. We are at HK airport with about an hour to wait for boarding so thought I'd try the free Internet and see sif I can get a quick blog published. Yesterday was a vey long and busy day but a lot of fun. We headed at at 9am to Admiralty MTR station and then caught a bus there for Ocean Park. This is one of HKs theme parks, similar to Disneyland I suppose but a lot of it is centred around sea life and animals. We arrived at the Park around 10am after experiencing more of the very efficient HK transport system. They have moving large numbers of people ... read more

Please Excuse this blog if it appears with awhole lot of computer cache rubbish in the text. I have been trying to publish this one for over 24 hours and it appears as though something major has gone wrong with the website. Everyone is complaining about to the webmaster but they seem to be having difficulty fixing it. So here goes anyway!! Tuesday dawned in Hong Kong and started rather late.I think our bodies were trying to tell us something…..they were getting tired…or was it just the fact that the day was November 22nd and I was turning another year older?????... read more

November 21st 2011

Well here we are in Hong Kong after two days of travel, the worst part of this sort of trip. Anyway better start at the beginning. Saturday, I think, it was that we left Petra after a rather leisurely morning. Our driver, Sa’ad didn’t pick us up until noon so we did some computer work (a blog of photos) and went for a last wander in some souvenir shops near to the hotel. The thing that really surprised us was just how cold it was. Don’t know the exact temperature but it was quite cold with very cool breeze blowing. Here we were in the middle of the day in the middle of the desert and it was very, very cold. We hadn’t struck weather quite like it since arriving in Egypt. We set off in ... read more

November 19th 2011

Hi again. We have a little time this morning before our 12 noon pickup for our trip up through Jordan. We will be stopping and 'maybe' swimming' in the Dead Sea before heading up to the capital of Jordan, Amman, for a look around. We then head to the airport for our 0130am tomorrow morning flight to Hong Kong via Frankfurt. The airp travel ticket with Star Alliance uses Lufthansa all through this part of the world and they 'hub' through Frankfurt. Sooooooo we arrive in Frankfurt at 0530am local time and don't leave for HK until around 6pm that evening. We have booked a 'day' hotel room at an hotel in the airport vicinity so we can have somewhere to sleep, shower etc. etc. before heading to HK and home. Sad!!! Anyway here are some ... read more

November 18th 2011

It is nearly 7pm on Friday and I am sitting in the Kings Way Hotel in Petra, Jordan after two days of extreme lows and extreme highs. HOWEVER just a note to those interested. We will be out of cell phone coverage for 2 days. We get to Frankfurt at 0530am on Sunday (local time) and will once again be on our NZ cell phone numbers. So if anyone is texting don't expect a reply until then. I’ll start with the ‘low’, and there haven’t been too many of them after 7 weeks on the road. I suppose I shouldn’t call it a ‘low’ because everything we have done has been an ‘experience’ one way or the other and yesterday was certainly an EXPERIENCE!!! You might recall that at the end of my last blog I ... read more

November 16th 2011

We are now at the Red Sea/Sinai Peninsula resort of Sharm El Sheik and it is 6.30pm as I start trying to catch up on the last couple of days. It looks as though we might get a decent internet system here, even though it is very expensive so I’ll try to get this typed up and cut and pasted onto the website tonight – if the internet works out!! To say we are both physically ‘shattered’ is probably putting it mildly as the schedule has been just crazy over the last 2 days. I left things last as we waited on Sunday night for a call from a doctor to give Joy her B12 injection. WELL, that didn’t work out!!!! After sitting up late waiting I went down to reception at 11.30pm to discover that ... read more

November 13th 2011

Hi family, friends and others.... I'm going to try to get this long one published tonight, it's midnight, so hopefully it will go through. No photos with this one as the connection is just way too slow and unreliable..... Read on for the story of the last few days. Well, as we expected, the internet access has been very patchy since we left Cairo for Aswan and the Nile cruise and that means I’ve got a few days to catch up with, which might get a bit boring for some, so read it in smaller doses so you don’t overdose on it!!!! I’m still not sure when I’ll get this posted on the blog site but I’ll do my best as soon as possible. Our second day in Cairo was another interesting day. We started with ... read more

November 10th 2011

Our first full day of sightseeing in Cairo has been a cracker. Before getting to the story of the day please note that neither of our cell phones work in Egypt. I checked on the Vodafone NZ website this morning and Egypt isn’t one of the countries they automatically ‘roam’ in. So because the internet is going to be tenuous and we need a means of contact with family etc. back home we have put a local SIM card into my phone. So if you need us at all over the next 10-12 days here is the number to text (or ring in a real emergency) 0021278466976 The last time we were here, 3 years ago, we paid a flying one day visit from the cruise ship when we docked in Alexandria. We saw a lot ... read more

November 9th 2011

WELL, we have finally arrived in Cairo, Egypt and it is nearly 10pm as I sit in our hotel room at the ‘ Le Meridien Pyramid Hotel and Spa’ and we wait for room service to deliver some food because WE ARE FAMISHED!!!!after another crazy day. Anyway I’ll come to that soon The last two days have really been ‘repositioning’ days as we start the next phase of our ‘journey’. We said ‘goodbye’ to Positano and our landlady Rosa at 9am yesterday when our driver picked us up to take us to Napoli Centrale railway station. The apartment/studio unit at Positano has been just great and we managed to get around to a lot more places that we originally thought we would once we found the buses and boats weren’t running from this part of the ... read more
