Geo: 21.9733, -159.354They are really big on Farmer's Markets here on Kauai. When we checked in yesterday we were given a list of them - one for every day of the week. After a quick breakfast of cereal and coffee, we set out. This farmer's market is in the parking lot of Kauai Community Colleges, and not only are there a lot of people selling, there are a lot of people buying. Happily I remembered to bring a reusable bag with us from home and have it today. There are fruits, flowers, veggies, local coffee, food trucks and a humane society tent. There are handmade jewelry tents, a woman weaving palm fronds into gorgeous baskets, local honey and eggs. Organic, non GMO and "picked this morning" Do you know what this fruit is? If you are ... read more

Geo: 21.9733, -159.354Today we are leaving Maui and heading for a week on Kauai. Our flight to Kauai isn't until to 2:30 so we have a leisurely morning. Packing, eating up the few groceries we have left, saying goodbye to our cute little condo right on the beach. We stop to top off the tank before returning the rental car and arrive at the airport in good time. We check in and need to find a secluded spot as the only thing that we didn't eat finish yet is 2 cans of beer! Jeff asks me, "Where are my glasses?" Hmmmm.... He remembers having his prescription reading glasses when we got gas. He heads back outside the airport to get BACK on the Budget rental car shuttle to go back and see if his glasses are still ... read more

The last couple of days in Kauai were relatively relaxing days, just hanging out by the ocean, the pool bar, and going out to dinner. No more excursions - nothing could top the helicopter tour, anyway. So we just stayed close to our resort, went across the street to do some shopping, and had our meals at nearby restaurants. Patti and Craig both added to their watch collections with unique purchases. Everyone stayed close to the pool bar in a heroic effort to run up our tabs as much as possible! (Patti/Craig won, of course - mostly Craig.) We are all sad to leave. We are just amazed at how beautiful these islands are - around every corner is another jaw-dropping view. I, for one, am immediately starting to save my pennies to go back. Thank ... read more

Another early start to our day - we arrived at the helicopter tour office at 7:45. After checking in, we had to get weighed so they could decide where to seat us in the helicopter. Happily, no numbers were visible to us! It's been more than a week of good eating! We were given our safety briefing, and were very pleased with their thoroughness and professionalism. A short drive to the helipad at the airport, more safety info, and it was time to board the helicopter. We were seated, strapped in, and got our headphones on. The headphones were to cancel the noise of the engine, and the pilot also narrated our flight through them. We were all a little anxious, but the liftoff was smooth and before we knew it we were way up in ... read more

Deciding what islands to visit on an 8 day trip to Hawaii is no easy task. After a lot of research we decided to spend the first three days of our trip on the small island of Kauai. With a population of barely 20,000 it's the quietest of the four major Hawaiian islands. It is, however, a major tourist destination due to some incredible scenic wonders. They filmed Jurassic Park here, as well as dozens of other movies. Clearly Hollywood knows what's up. Time to discover for ourselves what they have always known. We almost don't get out of New Zealand due to crappy weather. Half the flights from Wellington are cancelled. Luckily our plane takes off only an hour late and we make it to Auckland in time to board our Hawaiian Air flight to ... read more

Welp, I've tied the knot, off the market, took the plunge, this stallion has been brought into the stable. Haha all idioms aside, we've just returned from a marvelous honeymoon in Hawaii. We stayed on the island of Kauai, which is the oldest, most rural, and some say the most beautiful of the islands. It was incredibly relaxing. We went all out, spending our wedding gifts to make it a truly luxurious getaway. We sped around the island in a Mustang Convertible, ate plenty of seafood and steak, and went on an adventure or two. For me, the highlight of the trip included a 8-mile round trip hike to a beautiful waterfall. There, I took an exhilarating plunge in a large, ice-cold swimming hole. On the way back, we were caught in a downpour which made ... read more

Kauai today - 8.00a.m. docking in Nawiliwili- had a nice walk around the local area in the morning an then hired a 6 seater plane (Australian made airvan) with Bruce the pilot and did another wonderful scenic trip around the island. This island is really like a nature island and in stark contrast to our trip out of Hilo on the big island, very lush countryside and the most amazing canyons - flying around really does give you a good view of the whole island - flew costal for part and then up Waimea Canyon, the Wailua River and along the Na Pali Coast. Looks like some really nice resorts around the coast. The colours with the sun shining on the rocks and undergrowth was just lovely. The opposite side of the island gets 450 inches ... read more
