Goodness, it’s been a long time since I made a post about my travels. Unfortunately, in the past few years, I had to make some major changes to my life. So I am not able to travel as much as I want. Well, I have taken a few trips back to Korea and even did a stint in Thailand and Cambodia but neglected to write about it. The first reason is that I got married a couple of years ago and am now a Mom! Anyway, enough about me and lets talk about where I am now. So I am currently in Augusta, GA this week for the Masters tournament. My job is sending me there to give our readers a Masters sports betting update. It’s my first assignment out of the office that I have ... read more

I had determined the trip from Charlotte NC to Sanford FL, home of my 90 year old aunt, was over 500 miles and about 7-1/2 hours. A day like that is too long for this retired wimp! Sometimes I have to remind myself, “If it’s not fun, why do it?” The weather was still nice, although quite crisp in the morning, and a stop in Augusta GA would shorten the leg to Sanford by about one-third. Soooo… The trip to Heritage Mobile Home & RV Park in Augusta GA on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 on Interstates 77 and 20 was about 150 miles, took about 2-1/2 hours and, save reconstruction of the road where the RV park is located, was totally uneventful – just as I like ‘em! Wow! Having watched the Masters Golf tournament on TV for years, I had no idea how much more beautiful Augusta, Georgia is in person. The fairways and greens were so sculpted they looked fake. We looked and couldn't find even one weed. It started out as a beautiful morning and just continued to get more beautiful as the day wore on. The azaleas were blooming in profusion. Whites, pinks, reds, purples, salmon colored...Beautiful. There were dogwood trees in bloom too. Whites, pinks and yellows. The magnolia trees were covered with lavender wisteria blossoms hanging from the trunks. Everywhere you looked there were flowers or flowering trees. We walked into Augusta National and immediately saw the huge "Masters' scoreboard. It has flags on top from every country that has a player involved. We walked up along the ... read more

Didn't play golf...neither went to a church....but... Does Augusta deserve a blog entry? Maybe not...but than again...once, I was a 5 hcp golf player...you know, before I thought that being a single dad and diver...was more fun... If you have no idea what it can mean to be a 5 handicap golf player...don't worry, that's way in my past for the moment, it simply means that you can play serious golf...but that you'll never be good enough to try make a proper living playing golf. August, aka National August is basically welcoming the Masters every year. Let's put it simply, this is one of the top 4 golf tournament in the world every single year...in the same place! The British Open or US Open change golf course...and city every single year....the Masters don't! Augusta have around ... read more

Received an e-mail from an old Army buddy from my Fort Gordon, GA days. He reminded me of my days with the Military Police. Way back in the 1970’s at Ft. Gordon, GA, I enforced military law for the U.S. Army as a Military Police (MP) patrol supervisor. My job at Ft. Gordon as an MP supervisor was interesting and I enjoyed my job. As a patrol supervisor I supervised approximately 15 MP’s on various shifts. These MP’s were on facility entrance and exit gates, MP desk operations center duty, and of course some were on police vehicle patrol of the facility. My job as an MP supervisor was going along just fine, I enjoyed the job, and that should have told me something was about to happen! Sure enough, life changed dramatically when I was ... read more

March 27, 2010 Against my wife’s advice I left the house at 8:15 a.m. with just my summer mesh Joe Rocket riding jacket and pants on. I did think enough to layer my clothing a little. I wore my Rocky under garments, a long sleeve t-shirt and lastly I put the rain liner in my riding pants. So I headed off into the cool morning air towards Camden, SC to meet up with my friend Jim who was riding in from Myrtle Beach. Thank god it was only a 30 minute trip up Hwy. 601 to the Pilot Station where I was meeting Jim. I did not realize that I had no gas in the Shadow. Half way to our meeting spot I had to switch on the reserve tank. Once there I filled up both ... read more

11th August. Our first 'bad' day. The promise of a scenic route following the Savannah River Scenic byway didn't materialise. See . OK it was probably a lot do to with the heat and the fact we didn't have time to 'off route' to some of the more scenic attractions suggested, and it was better than a plain highway as it was tree lined most of the way and fairly quite for the most part - but nothing of real interest, dead straight and nothing near the actual river for most of the way. It wasn't helped by temperatures of 94 F. over most of the 160 + miles. Most of the way there are sad looking settlements with closed shops and factories. People are living in real poverty - tumble down shacks right next to ... read more
