Been on the move again. Left Marathon two weeks ago went to Miami with Desiree and Suzie. Paul came on Fri. Desiree and Suzie left on Sat. Paul and I hung out in South Beach Sat. Sun we went into the ocean and sailed to Lake Worth. Got the crap kicked out of us. Double reefed main and jib rolled in a half and the rail was still in the water. I got sea sick. Got into Lake Worth inlet around five and I was ready to sell the boat. Went through four squalls with 30 knot winds. I found out about elephants on the horizon in the Gulf Stream. They scare the hell out of me. We made nine knots most of the day though. More on that later. The wind has been coming out ... read more

Our first stop this morning was the St. Augustine Lighthouse. Like most of the attractions here, if you want to go inside and see things up close, you have to pay admission. Only the gift shops allow entry without fee. After taking a few pictures from outside the fence and buying a patch in the gift shop, we drove into St. Augustine to the Visitor Center. You have to pay for parking at the visitor center and most other places here. Inside we looked at the few exhibits and bought tickets for the sightseeing train, which is really a trolley that looks trainish. The train is owned by the Ripley's Believe or Not folks, and they allow free parking in their lot. The trolley and the train will take you all over the area, stopping at ... read more

Yesterday we left Ft. Myers and drove to Rainbow Springs State Park near Dunnellen. We met my cousins, Candy and Becky, at Pizza hut for supper. What a great time we had; those two gals are crazy and fun to be with. We calculated we hadn't seen each other since our grandmother's funeral in the early 90's, so a lot of catching up was in order. I hated when it was time to part. It was nearly dark when we got back to the campground and we still hadn't set up the camper. We were running late when we checked in so just unhooked from the truck, plugged in the electricity and headed for town. We hadn't been inside after setting up for more than 2 minutes when the rain started. It just rained a few ... read more

Chesterton WEB SITES click on the blue letters tp learn more Lighthouses January 13, 2010, Wednesday We drove from O’Leno SP to Anastasia SP in St. Augustine. Anastasia SP is an island located close to the historic St. Augustine and is a coveted spot for RV’ers. The park boasts a broad beach and lagoon. The ancient oaks were young when Juan Ponce De Leon landed in the area in 1513 and gave Florida its name. This is a great campground for bikers. Since we arrive after 2 PM we decided to walk and use the bridge to get down to the ocean. Finally sunshine and just about 60 degrees…white caps and seagulls! The cold snap is ending. We enjoyed ... read more

Geo: 29.892, -81.3143You go for the history, but you stay for the eclectic little shops surrounding old town. I could stay a week wandering in and out of tiny, classy, funky eye-candy shops on tiny, narrow, closed-in, cobbled, wobble-d lanes.St. Augustine was Spain's bastioned battle front against the hungry British and French. This was a veritable lifeline of wealth they were protecting. I mean...Spain had been pouring gold and silver from Peru and Bolivia into Spanish coffers for years through these waters, and had no intention of brooking opposition. They could deal with the pirates, but the British were no longer content to pick off a ship or two. They wanted the trade route. They wanted it all.The upstarts were to be nailed!St. Augustine had one of the few usable harbors on this north flowing Gulf ... read more
