This might be our 10th visit to Saint Augustine. It was our first visit to the Alligator Farm Zoological Park, 999 Anastasia Boulevard; we shouldn't have stayed away so long. Admission is on the pricey side ($21 each (with our AAA discount). Our advice would be to go early in the day, take in all the shows, and get your money's worth. We caught three shows - alligator feeding, a reptile show, and fauna of the rain forest. All were informative, lasted about 20 minutes and provided time after for Q & A and, except for the alligator show, some optional touching. I think we stayed away because Alligator Farm's promotion seemed kind of hokey and "touristy" plus we are not particular fans of theme parks. Juan Ponce de Leon, zette in zijn zoektocht naar de Fontein van de Eeuwige Jeugd op paaszondag 3 april 1513 als eerste Europeaan voet aan wal bij St. Augustine in wat later de Verenigde Staten van Amerika zouden worden. Hij noemde het gebied La Florida noemde, omdat er vele bloemen groeiden. St. Augustine werd gesticht in 1565 door de Spaanse ontdekkingsreiziger Pedro Menéndez de Avilés. Daarmee is het officieel de eerste, vaste nederzetting van Europeanen in de Verenigde Staten van Amerika. À notre arrivée a Fernandina Beach (Floride), nous avons dû prendre les précautions nécessaire pour le passage de l'ouragan Sandy. Nous avons suivi sa progression régulièrement sur internet. Selon le site de la NOAA, le plus fort des vents que nous allions recevoir étaient de 40 à 50 noeuds(75 à 90kmh) dans la nuit de vendredi à Samedi. Nous avons donc décidé de prendre un quai à une Marina avec l'équipage de Virage et Magie. Étant donné que nous étions tellement bien protégé des vents, nous avons enregistré seulement des vents de 20-25 noeuds (35 à 45kmh). Nous n'avons même pas eu de pluie.....Ce sont plutôt nos amis voiliers qui étaient plus au nord qui y ont goûter! Plusieurs d'entre-eux on dû sortir leur bateau de l'eau. Today we had a bit of a sleep in, woohoo!!! 8.45am Bags to coach to head to Kennedy Space Center. The space center was so cool. They have a place called "Rocket Garden" where they display some of the different rockets they used during the space race. We also watched an Imax 3D movie about the space shuttle program. It was really interesting but there was no need for it to be 3D. It just made my eyes water more than anything. After that, Nikki, Robyn, Erin and I went on the bus tour to Lauch Pad 39 and the Saturn V building. Launch Pad 39 is where the Apollo 11 mission lauched.
