Sunday 6th July 2014 Today we drove to our next stop, St Augustine, just under 300kms south of Savannah, although we ended up travelling a fair bit more than that. We set off with Brunswick punched into the GPS (what a marriage saver that is) which was just over half way. The town was deserted, we drove through it without seeing a shop open, a police car the only other vehicle around. Just outside of town we came across an interesting bridge so we stopped to stretch our legs and take some photos. Here we met some locals fishing, and talked to a couple of them. Even though they didn't seem to be catching much, one of them summed it up by saying he just enjoyed being out fishing. It wasn't the act of catching a ... read more

This might be our 10th visit to Saint Augustine. It was our first visit to the Alligator Farm Zoological Park, 999 Anastasia Boulevard; we shouldn't have stayed away so long. Admission is on the pricey side ($21 each (with our AAA discount). Our advice would be to go early in the day, take in all the shows, and get your money's worth. We caught three shows - alligator feeding, a reptile show, and fauna of the rain forest. All were informative, lasted about 20 minutes and provided time after for Q & A and, except for the alligator show, some optional touching. I think we stayed away because Alligator Farm's promotion seemed kind of hokey and "touristy" plus we are not particular fans of theme parks. We went to Ripley's, also in St. Augustine, one day ... read more

Day 3 and time to say goodbye to Disney and head for our 'Palace on Wheels' for the next 2 weeks. Exiting Disney was a breeze and after a quick call at 8:00 am to the rental centre to confirm our pick up time "come any time you want!" it was a $60 taxi ride back across Orlando to our pick up point at Roadbear RV Rentals. Most rental centres offer a free pick up from your hotel but for Roadbear, Disney was just a bit to far away...maybe next time we'll think about staying a bit closer! On out last trip many people and online bloggers had recommended Roadbear over others (including Cruise America who we used last year in California). I have to say we weren't disappointed! As we entered the small rental site ... read more

Nu is St Augustine een sfeervolle (bad)plaats ... read more

When thinking of Florida, it is consumed with one word: Disney. For people who want a stress free holiday and opt for the Orlando package holiday, which can include over a week’s worth of theme parks, this becomes more of a stress filled holiday with each day being a twelve hour race to get everything in, running around like a school of fish. If you want to experience Orlando but enjoy non-tourist areas too, Florida has much to offer. Unfortunately, in a package holiday, you are stuck in a bubble where you stay on International Drive, which can only be described as Blackpool without the seaside. If you don’t rent a car, you are restricted to a bus that doesn’t take you out of the claustrophobic location. In most of this busy area, walking is prohibited, ... read more

Today we had a bit of a sleep in, woohoo!!! 8.45am Bags to coach to head to Kennedy Space Center. The space center was so cool. They have a place called "Rocket Garden" where they display some of the different rockets they used during the space race. We also watched an Imax 3D movie about the space shuttle program. It was really interesting but there was no need for it to be 3D. It just made my eyes water more than anything. After that, Nikki, Robyn, Erin and I went on the bus tour to Lauch Pad 39 and the Saturn V building. Launch Pad 39 is where the Apollo 11 mission lauched. We didnt go right there, but we saw it from an observation deck. It was really cool to see where such famous history ... read more
