But when he suggested we drive ONLY 50 miles to an event held April 9-11, 2010, I was a bit apprehensive, to say the least. I wasn't aware that the largest ATV, Mudbuggy, Monster Truck riding area in Florida was on our radar--over 800 acres of pure bliss if you want to get down & dirty! Located just a smidgin east of Punta Gorda, the Redneck Yacht Club conjures up a down... read more

Wednesday 16th, Thursday 17th July 2014 Both of these days were work days for Judy, she having to mark over 50 university assignments. Victor worked most of his required 15 hours at the golf course, Helen and Rags doing their own thing. The postal service delivered a parcel for Rags, this being a gear set for the bike he intends to build when we get back. Much cheaper to buy here in USA and postage is free as well. First thing this morning Rags took one of the bikes out for a ride around the suburb. He did prove that the approach road to where we are staying comes to a dead-end if approached from the south, as he rode through dense vegetation and water trying unsuccessfully to get through. Even so, the 15kms or so ... read more

Thursday 10th July 2014 Today was a travel day, as we headed for Victor & Helen's home in Punta Gorda about 300kms away. The only stop we made was at Lake Okeechobee, just over half way, to have lunch. This lake is huge by our standards, fresh water and over 60kms wide with the depth around 4 metres. No shortage of water here! We had a lunch we purchased at Okeechobee on the way in, sitting under a shelter high up above the lake. Beautiful view across the lake, so wide you couldn't see the other side. Power and fan boats were seen, these set up for fishing the perch and bass in the lake. As what seems to be common here in any waterway, alligators also live there, putting a dampener for those wanting to ... read more

We're back in Florida - the past 2 weeks have been spent prepping Gust O'Wind for another southern sailing season...and blowing the budget in the process. As every boater knows, there is nothing sane about boating.. Our favourite analogy is..."Sailing is like standing under a cold shower tearing up $100 bills." We launched yesterday, but now will have to wait while hurricane Ida decides what she wants to do...she is the boss! ... read more

Probably the reason we have enjoyed Florida's west coast so much (beside the great weather) has been the relaxed pace. We no longer feel we have to make 40 or 50 miles a day to get to a destination - and if we like a place we stay a few more days. The past several weeks have been a nice blend of quiet, scenic anchorages and convenient small city moorings or anchorages. We have been able to avoid the expense of marinas for 2 weeks so feel a 2 day splurge here in Punta Gorda (visiting with Brian & Lydia and Lin & Rick) is a deserved treat. It also gives us the chance to check out a boatyard where we plan to store Gust O'Wind for the coming summer. Since leaving Marathon we have buddy ... read more

I don't know what you did but when we got home, we spent hours looking at the pictures on the little screen on our camera. The other hours for several days we slept! Took us a week to finally get back in synch. I was chicken about transferring the pictures to my computer. I didn't want to lose the capacity to magnify parts of pictures (birds, especially). A friend finally helped me make the transfer, find the pictures in the "Shared File" where they settled on my computer, and work with the Kodak Easyshare program. Then Marty started sending her travel blog. She had such a good time with it that I asked her how to do it. She got me started and I have been absorbed ever since in telling of our adventures and reliving ... read more

Hi everyone, just to update you all on our latest travels, this time staying with our friends Susan and Tom in their fantastic home in Punta Gorda, Florida. We left Manchester, UK and flew with Delta via Atlanta due to it being winter and the possibility of snow disruption if we had flown via New York or Boston. However, upon arriving at Atlanta it seemed they too were having their own weather problems with the snow, albeit minor and so all flights on the day we were transiting through had to be de-iced by the airport staff. This now meant we had to sit on the tarmac for around 3 hours. However, whilst sat on the aircraft, the powers that be decided that as the weather was beginning to warm up somewhat, all aircraft didn’t need ... read more
