blog 02-05-19 Wekewa Springs My how the time did fly. I can't believe I'm so far behind on the blog. Ginnie and I spent the last few days visiting friends, flea shopping in the campground, watching the gopher tortoises, and going out to dinner and lunch. On Saturday night it was finally warm enough to go to the lake to watch the fireworks at Disney. They are fired off every night at 8 pm this time of year and last a good 20 min. There were several other people that came to watch and we all oood and ahaaad with the best. pictures. Sunday it was time for me to move on to a state park about an hour from here and I had to leave Thousand Trails by 11 am. Ginnie came to help and ... read more

It's like rubbing your head and tapping your belly at the same time....some can do it; some can't. I fall in the second category. I can't experience our adventures and write about it soon after. I need a rest session in between. By the time we complete these marathon walking events, I'm whipped....even my brain and fingers. But I'll eventually catch up with you as long as you are patient with me. Thusly (as Sheldon Cooper would say...Big Bang Theory TV Show)......yesterday: Cory, myself, Sam and George left Tropical Palms at 7:30 AM and headed off to Mt. Dora ( >an hour away) for their Antique and Collectible Extravaganza. That meant I had to get up before 6:30 AM--- yawn.???. It was a perfect day...slightly cool but still warm air flowing and then, hot in the ... read more

Discovering Mt Dora The group was meeting for breakfast at 8 am, why I couldn’t tell you. So Oscar had an early walk, I had one cup and coffee and took my 2nd to the meeting room. There were all kinds of goodies, banana nut bread, bagels, coffee cake and buns. We all talked some more and I got more ideas for places to visit. I took Oscar for a longer walk and by then Kat and I were ready to go to see what Mt Dora had to offer. It was about a 20 min ride and we found a parking place on the street and starting exploring. There were blocks of little shops, some with home made crafts, some with antiques, little wall hanging and all kinds of interesting things. We walked all around ... read more

Flight Home The day was gorgeous but the mood was glum. Not quite that bad but sad anyway. Dee was going home today and I was going to miss my camping buddy and Oscar was going to be depressed for days. We tried to beat the cleaning people in the bathhouse but didn’t make it. So we puttered around camp a little, starting to pack up then when we saw the cart leave we bolted for the showers. And a glorious shower it was. We took Oscar for a walk and Dee did the dishes and packed while I put the outside things away, disconnected the water and closed the outside doors. We saw some people we met and said our good-byes to them. The next stop was the dump station where all went well and ... read more

No plans....just taking it easy. Aaaaahhhhhhh. Friday was a rainy, dank day so we just hung out in the RV and did nothing....most enjoyable. The Mt. Dora (antique) Extravaganza was going on but we convinced ourselves we weren't going until their next show in February which is defined as its best. Nothing is carved in stone....Saturday morning our phone rang. Dealer friends of ours were set up at Mt. Dora and wondered if we were coming to the show. Okay....it would be fun to see them so off we went. The show was as we remembered: dusty and full of "repro's". Half of the show is on a hillside so you have to be part mountain goat to get around it. The rest of the stuff for sale is so high priced (delusions of grandeur) you ... read more

We took our seats at a table on the outside deck of Pisces Rising, a popular water view restaurant in historic Mount Dora, and it quickly became evident that there was something truly unique about the place. Sure there was a picturesque vista of the lake in the distance behind Mount Dora Yacht Club down below us. But most intriguing was that we were actually looking down on Lake Dora from a hill above. At a mind boggling elevation of 184 feet above sea level, Mount Dora is the closest Florida has to a “mountain-top” town. The truth is the only thing I knew about Mount Dora was that it is located in central Florida about 25 miles from Orlando and holds an award-winning craft fair attracting more than 350 of the country’s top artisans each ... read more
