Hello I knew it would be fast. Here we are on the 5th day of our holiday already! Our flight on Tuesday went without a hitch. Our room in Ft. Lauderdale was very nice and had a great breakfast. We are traveling in a Black Ford Explorer, so traveling is very comfortable for us all. Wednesday we headed south. Our first stop was at Coopertown, where we boarded an air boat for a 45 min. tour through the river of grass that is the Everglades. Scooter, our guide, was a good ole down south boy. Lives out on an island in [View Full Entry]

This is the picture that Debbie sent us of Jonner in full scuba gear along with his Dad, Donnie. We understand they were after lobster. This was Jonner's 1st dive. Think we were told he was down 22 feet. [View Full Entry]

7 mile Bridge
7 mile Bridge
The longest of the Bridges connecting the keys
Florida Keys was next on the Itinerary. A chain of islands joined by a highway of bridges. Each island becoming more beautiful, the further into the carribean sea you went. Along the way to Key West, we stopped in at the Turtle Hospital where they house permanently injured residents as well as rehabilitate those where there is an option for release back into the wild. We arrived in Key West late afternoon and discovered that we could take a sunset cruise in the home of the Sunsets. This cruise also had the bonus of offering “complimentary” beer, wine and champagne. Not [View Full Entry]

The Florida Keys, and Colorado Springs, Co. Travel Mate- John O'Boyle Six months on the road. This was my first travel, and a lot of other firsts as well. I was 18, full of ideals and nievity, after a year of looking for a way to begin my traveling dreams I met John and he invited me to go to Key West with him. I made you're average rookie mistakes, over packing, under funding, believing what dead heads said, yada yada. But John knew the ropes and after a month on the go in the Keys, I got it down. Key Largo
Key Largo
Filled with artificial canals and waterways, Key Largo is packed full of boating holidaymakers
After 60 some hours of travel from Bangkok, Simon and Lauren wound up in Miami and spent a weekend in the Florida Keys, diving on a reef and shallow wreck the first day, and doing a double dip on the USS Spiegel Grove the second. Lauren was pleased to be back home, and enjoyed showing Simon around the Keys and Miami. They witnessed the colorful sunset festival in Key West and vibrant fireworks displays in Miami, but the Spiegel stood out as the highlight of the weekend for both. Splashing in Florida is much more refreshing and less brisk than some [View Full Entry]

(Panorama above is the view of the outer walls of Fort Jefferson, Dry Tortugas National Park) Shreya and I visited South Florida for 4 days during July 4th weekend. Summer is not the right season to visit Southern Florida. It is the wet season with some occurrences of hurricanes. But, the bright side is the benefits of the “off-season”. That is, relatively less rush, cheaper hotels, etc. Key West is the southernmost city of Continental United States. It is 4 hours South West of Miami, accessible by the Overseas Highway (US Route 1). This scenic highway consists of 42 bridges [View Full Entry]

Off With His Head!!!
Today is our last full day in Key West. We started the day with breakfast at Pepe's, a local gourmet breakfast spot where we started with mimosas and fresh strawberries. After breakfast, we decided to play tourists of Key West. We walked into town and hopped on the World Famous Conch Train (Scott's mom would be proud). The kids were a little leary at first, but they really enjoyed it. The tour was an hour and a half and went all around old town Key West, which by the way is 2 miles by 4 miles (and has 250 liquor licenses). [View Full Entry]

Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday
To Pamela and Ilene, celebrating at Marquesa
Some of you may know that Pamela and I share the same birthday - June 6th. We awoke today to the sound of Happy Birthday. After a relaxing breakfast at Harpoon Harry's, our husband's treated us to massages and facials at the Pier House Carribean Spa. It was a very relaxing and enjoyable way to spend our birthdays. We were reminded of our birthday last year, which we celebrated together in Costa Rica. I think that Pamela and I have celebrated every birthday together since they moved in next door to us almost 9 years ago! After our spa treatments and [View Full Entry]

Josh the Fisherman
Josh the Fisherman
Along with Steve from Mr. Z (and a few of our catch)!
Today started out very early...as in 6 a.m. We decided that we would do a half day fishing charter, because Josh was itching to go fishing. We made plans with Mr. Z and headed out around 6:45 a.m. Josh was so excited, he could hardly get to sleep last night. We caught 15 dolphin! Most were fairly small, but they were definitely biting. After a while, we decided that we would only keep a few of the fish, because our freezer on the boat just isn't that big! It was defniitely one of the most exciting fishing trips we have been [View Full Entry]
