Looking for Accomodations in Aspen, Colorado? I use this resource to locate a aspen hotel for a friend or family member coming on a vacation to Colorado. This is also a great way to find places that best match your preferences when you use lodging at a resort. For example, if you are definitely bringing Fido and your kids want to be able to play in the pool, then you can narrow your results fairly easily. It is good stuff...play around a bit. -Eric... read more

It had been a long week at work and I was very much looking forward to a break. One of the first signs I saw at the airport was "Aspen welcomes your mind, body and spirit." Amen. This was my first "traditional" vacation.... I don't count the time off between my first two jobs. This one I actually used "vacation" time to go to some spellbinding locale and knock around for awhile It took two connections (Chicago and Denver) to reach Aspen on Friday, January 18th. It was night when I flew in. The descent towards the airport was rapid... their was one particular drop where I could feel the bottom falling out... also, on approach I watched the mountains in the distance... and as we descended and moved closer the airport, much closer snow covered ... read more

I participated in the Ridin’ the Rockies HOG Touring Rally that was held June 25-28, 2007. The plan for the week was to spend some time with my cousins before the rally started then take the long way home after the rally. I rode my 2005 833 Sportster from KC to the rally and back home. The following is a ride report of the ride. It is divided in to parts because of the pictures. Didn’t sleep well last night. My neighbor, which I think is one of the asphalt paving guys that are living in the hotel, has his music loud and I couldn’t get to sleep, then I wake up at midnight and I am burning up hot. I wake up again at 3AM I am freezing. I have a headache and can not ... read more

This past weekend I spend nearly 3 days in the rain at over 10,000 feet above sea level camping 20 minutes away from Aspen. Independance Pass (HWY 82) east of Aspen offers a variety of camping options for those who really want to get into some high alpine valleys of Colorado. The Portal Campsites are free first-come-first-serve campsites just a few miles up a dirt/rock road from Lincoln Creek Campground. It has access to marvelous mountain scenery, a river, fish stocked reservoir, and high alpine lakes to hike to. It rained the entire time we were up there, but it was beautiful and my companions made it one of the most memorable experiences I have had in the backcountry. Wood is plentiful for campfires, and a 4X4 is recommended. ... read more

We spent the long holiday weekend in Aspen, continuing our training. There are great, even classic, rides in Aspen. Earlier I did Independence Pass before it opened for cars. This weekend I did Maroon Bells and Ashcroft. I am feeling good on the bike. Only 2 weeks until we leave for France... read more

Colorado From Arches we drove to Telluride where we wanted to stay the night. On the way we saw an archway over someone’s front door made completely of deer antlers - a pretty dramatic look! We drove into Telluride to find out that the famous Bluegrass festival was starting the next day! This meant that all traffic was stopped on the way in, we were given a ‘day pass’ to get into the town but of course all the accommodation was booked. Telluride was a gorgeous little mountain town in a high alpine valley. It is definitely worth the visit. So after looking at the map we decided to head NE to Ridgeway where we found a state park to stay in. It was the perfect place to stay we looked down to a lake and ... read more

First impressions can be deceiving as can pre-conceive ideas. Aspen, oh yeah, snooty people in fur coats pretending to ski a mountain that sucks. Sure, whatever. Wrong! What a great town; reminiscent of another of our favorite spots, Carmel, California. Lots of shops; many very high-end. You can buy blue jeans for $1,900 US, wine glasses at $400 US apiece and napkins ring for $200 US each (I know you know it’s all in US dollars but I feel the need to emphasis these prices). Lori, someone said that Starbucks’ charges 3 times their usual rates for a cup of coffee at the base of Aspen Mountain. The town is a combination of old and new. Most of these ski resorts started out as mining towns that went broke later to find prosperity from skiing. The ... read more
