... read more

Reis goed gestart.

Drove to Telegraph Hill. Climbed up Coit Tower. Willy looked with interest as acrylic artist explained how he drew his pictures of San Francisco. Drove to Russian Hill. Walked up the celebrated flowering Lombard Street, as tourist cars snaked their way down the road. Drove to the Exploratorium. Parked in a neighbourhood of exquisite Pacific Heights townhouses. The boys were keenly interested in the hands-on exhibits at the Exploratorium. Drove the Scenic Drive through the Presidio, past the Legion of Honour, into Outer Richmond, following Geary Avenue to its end at the Sutro overlook of the Seal Rocks. San Francisco at its coldest and foggiest. Headed back toward the hotel. Meandered a bit through the Univ of San Francisco (Jesuit) neighborhood, trying to find a short path to Haight-Ashbury. Gave up. After resting at Hilton, went ... read more

About Pigeon Point, Willy wishes to add that you should look at the lighthouse at night, because it is an active spectral presence with its rotating bright Fresnel lenses. In the morning, we headed into the hills through Pescadaro toward San Francisco. The elderly San Francisco bicyclist advised us that going north up Highway 1 was not an option because of a landslide. The hill route was very exciting and winding, with many dark stands of coastal redwoods, much bigger than the trees we saw at Big Sur. We looked with interest at the horse country and estates around Woodside as we descended the hills and approached Interstate 280. Entering the Financial District, I parked the car and headed toward a Kinko's that Denny had spotted, to reserve a room at the Hilton just three blocs ... read more
