First of all I’d just like to say BEST HALLOWEEN EVER!!! Now I can begin. As I have already mentioned in my ‘Cannabis Doctor’ blog My Halloween started off very well. I got to meet one of my childhood heroes and in less than ten words he managed to insult my current workplace lol. During the rest of the day we went to Universal Studios, I’m not sure if it was because it was Halloween or not but it was a lot quieter than I expected. The longest queue for a ride was 30 minutes, most other rides we just walked on to. There were lots of signs up warning guests about some of the Halloween decorations up around the studios. Universal studios is family friendly, therefore welcoming to kids. But the Halloween decorations were for ... read more

Amtrak arrived in Flagstaff only half hour late, and got us to LA on time. A good sleep, breakfast and shower included. As the train drove through California desert views gave way to palm trees. From Union station it was a short subway ride to Hollywood Highland station near our Airbnb. Walked straight out of the station onto the Walk of Fame, bustling with people dressed up in various movie themed costumes, tourists, and people selling bus tours of the star's homes. We strolled past the Chinese Theater towards the coffee shop where our hostess had arranged to meet us. Our lovely lady hostess (who is an actress) picked us up from the coffee shop in her Mercedes, drove us to the supermarket to pick up supplies, then back to her place via a couple of ... read more

Set out to be discovered by Hollywood today. Parked at Hollywood and Highland, and visited the stars on the walk of fame. Whilst we had looked forward to this, they are really just a bunch of stars set in concrete on a sidewalk. You get the photo, and then....well, another photo, and another. Hmmm. tick. Had bought tickets to Madam Tussauds online last night, so headed there next. Pretty cool and good value for money. Some of the models looked crap, but some were very realistic. Whilst there I met the real Sandra Bullock, so got a photo with her (see attached). She had dressed up like she was on the red carpet, and her skin was really waxy. Must be because of wearing stage makeup all the time we figured. Found that the California Pizza ... read more

Two Worlds That Couldn't Be Further Apart. The day before flying out of Fiji, I thought I must have over done the air conditioning during the night as I started to get a tickle in my throat. Unfortunately, not the case, as my final morning it had blossomed into a lovely and endearing husky rasp. By midday I was barely able to move and wanted nothing more than to try and steal my room key back so that I could curl into the foetal position in a dark corner. Instead, I had a generous Veronika and Joeli ply me with honey and lemon tea for the 7 hours remaining until I needed to be at the airport. 11 hours onboard a plane with a sore throat, a barking cough, and a nose that was now creating ... read more

Hello everybody, I had a few days before I left Los Angeles for my cruise, so I took a 6 hour city tour. They told us that Hollywood starrted around 1927. It was the year the first Academy Awards were held as a luncheon at the Roosevelt Hotel. It was also when studios chose LA as the place for film premieres. I did all the touristy stuff--stood on the square where the likes of Joan Rivers screams, "who are you wearing?" and "who do you have with you?" I then walked up that long staircase to the entrance of the Dolby theatre that holds 3400 people. Enjoy the pictures, Donna... read more

SURFTRAVEL TIP #1 : "The Beginning of Boldness". Make that first step. Pack up everything, store what you don't need (which is alot) and sublet or rent your place. Then watch the $ work. We tend to forget that renting a place or a mortgage is a huge monthly expense. Why not leave your sentimental valuables with a loved one and make the world your rental? I bought my ticket to England from Honolulu in two stages. I got on a travel website that specializes in mass ticket deals and used the "multi-city" feature. I traveled mid-week and overland sometimes, tried major cities and logical legs - I could go into further detail but long story short: After a few hours I had a ticket from Honolulu to LA to Peru to Miami and Atlanta to ... read more

I went to Universal Studios Florida a few years ago with my friend and her family. Hollywood was different, with different rides. First off the price was about $90 but the purchase came with a year admission. Parking was a ridiculous price though ($20). And of course the food in Universal was pricey and general food (pizza, burger, Chinese). Nothing worth the dollars spent but at the same time it was the general cost of anywhere else (zoos, other amusement parks, etc). My favorite ride had to been the Simpsons one. My friend and I went on it twice. I think her favorite was the Jurassic Park. I also really enjoyed the Studios tour where the bus took you down to the soundstages and where both shows and films were made. We saw the sets of ... read more
