We made to LA - home of the rich and famous!! Our first GreyHound experience was quite good. The trip didn’t seem to take as long as expected and the coach was clean and even had a loo. We checked into our hostel (USA Hostels located just off Hollywood Boulevard) and it soon became clear that the dorm was full of girls as it looked like Topshop mixed with Boots had exploded all over the room! There were knickers lying on the floor, tampax randomly scattered around, endless amount of toiletries and about 5 pairs of hair straightners! This just made [View Full Entry]

QUIET ON THE SET!! We woke up this morning after getting some much needed sleep. We said goodbye to our island paradise and got onto our ferry for our ride back to San Pedro Dock. After a tough 9 rounds of golf (a card game) and a challenge, Kelsey walked away the golf card champion! We made a wager andd she gets to pick the restuarant for dinner one of the next couple of nights. Of course knowing Kelsey we are doomed to a dinner of chicken nuggets, fries & pizza! After we got off the ferry we headed towards City [View Full Entry]

... Unless, of course, you are two English girls without the foggiest idea of how a casino works!! Soooo, the journey continues!! Leaving San Francisco on Monday, I spent literally two whole days on a bus, breaking the journey overnight in Los Angeles, and then heading on to Vegas on Tuesday. Though I knew that Las Vegas was in the middle of the desert, it wasn't until I was on yet another greyhound, that had to turn off the air conditioning when going uphill so that it didn't overheat (that one's fun when you're wearing jeans) and just driving through miles [View Full Entry]

LA City Tour Due to our short time scale in LA, we really hadn't too much time to see a lot so we opted to do the LA city tour that our hostel offered. Los Angeles is a ridiculously big city and the only comparable place we have ever been in size is London. Only the public transport system here is practically non existant, save for a few rickety buses and a beleagured subway system. It means getting from one area to another is a task, particularly since most places of public interest are located at opposite ends. The tour looked [View Full Entry]

Los Angeles: The City Of Angels Arriving in LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), we were sitting on the runway for an additional hour before one of the largest airports in the world found an available gate for the plane. At this point we were beginning to think that it would be a bit of a nightmare getting through passport control and customs, making our estimated arrival at the hostel of 4pm a bit of a dream. Much to our surprise, those stages went exceptionally well and we were standing in the entrance to the airport in no time. Los Angeles is [View Full Entry]

When a once in a lifetime opportunity comes around, you want to make the most of it. Don’t waste the day as my Mother would say. It’s a little disheartening when your only means of transport doesn’t agree with you. Universal Studios probably opens at around 9am, but I didn’t bother to find out. I didn’t bother, because the earliest pickup from the coach was at 10am - which should get you there at 11am. By that time of the morning, the actual opening time becomes somewhat of a moot point. Rather than whining, I could have found another coach service [View Full Entry]

This photo is taken at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, Hollywood, California The final part of our tour, we'd originally added LA to our itinerary as we couldn't stand a diret flight to London from Hawaii with only a brief stop over at LAX so we added a few extra days in Hollywood. My views on LA possibly for this reason are a little bias in that we only really had time to do the touristy things rather than explore a little further off the beaten track but in any case, outwith Santa Monica, Venice Beach and maybe the Getty Center, I'm not [View Full Entry]

The home of the biggest filming studio in the world and a designated city in it’s own right, complete with Mayor (Bill Cosby), hospital, post office and zip code, Universal is quite unique. As we shared with you in our Los Angeles blog we had decided to see the studios in style with a VIP Experience pass. This involves a guided tour throughout the theme park and studios to include access to a VIP lounge, lunch, a walk around on the sets of movies, access to the prop department and bypassing all queues for rides. We started our day with coffee [View Full Entry]

The PMBOK Guide (America's Project Management Book of Knowledge) defines the operational system as; An integrated set of regularly interacting or interdependent components created to accomplish a defined objective and having defined and maintained relationships among it's components and where the whole produces or operates better than the simple sum of its components."Huh, you what !?.
