Quartzsite Arizona is one of those odd bucket list items for many RV'rs...us included. Whole winter dry camping in the desert has a unique appeal for some folks, however for us 4 days is good. Trust me 4 days was plenty. We spent our days hiking in the desert, enjoying the stars in the moonless dark nights, and of course visiting the vendors. It's incredible how much of the Milky Way can be seen in skies without moonlight or light pollution. Other than the ever-present wind and dust, there isn't much in Quartzsite to be truthful. Its normal 3500 person population explodes in the winter (especially in January). The town gets about a million visitors annually for the big-tent city that sets up with hundreds of vendors during the winter months. Thankfully we arrived after the ... read more

Well we are in the desert "glamping". It is so beautiful here. There are about 12 other rv's spread around this area. It is called the BML and it is free camping for 14 days. With our generator and solar panels we can stay that long easy. But we are only staying a few days as we want to get to Tucson and then to Phoenix. The weather has been very hot, 92 degrees yesterday. But today it has cooled off and we have a few clouds. Hopefully it doesn't rain, but if it does that is okay too. It is so peaceful here in the desert. Lots of room to let Jackson run. Last night we BBQ'd chicken and ate outside. It gets really dark when the sun goes down. Jackson stays pretty close at ... read more

We decided to stay a couple more days here in Quartzsite. We drove to Parker yesterday...a town north of here. We picked up some groceries and washed the truck. That was our excitement for the day....we are planning on heading to the desert tomorrow, as our stay here is ending. There is a place just north of here that a lot of people go. We want to try our generator and see what it is like using our own power. It will only be for a couple of days then we will head to Tucson. We wanted to go there since we haven't been there for 20 years.... read more

On January 14 we headed to our first RV Rally the infamous Quartzsite RV rally in the middle of nowhere Arizona. We were excited. We met up with Stan and Georgann at the Quail Run RV Park where we would get the rigs ready for the 5 day stay in the desert without electricity, water or dump hookups "Boon Docking". We were joining their Safari RV group and were known as the SOB's Some Other Brand. The Safari brand has beautiful murals on the back of their coaches. During the day we would venture over to the acres of venders set up with everything from crafts, to tools, kitchen gadgets, clothes and especially food. On the 16th we went to the BLM Bureau of Land Management location that the wagon master had selected and where all ... read more

Jon and Joyce got the new tires put on their rig this morning, so we didn't leave out of Tucson until around noon. We made our way up west of Phoenix to a SMALL town called Tonopah. Not much in this little town but a huge (355 spaces) RV park. They cater to the snowbirds, so this time of year the park is almost empty. Works good for us. Tomorrow we are off to head up the Colorado river on the border of Arizona and California. Goal is to make Needles, CA tomorrow afternoon. We'll see what might come up in the mean time. We are excited about seeing the new sights in California.... read more

The 1st few pics you will see were taken around Quartzsite before we left for Vegas. We arrived in Vegas in the late morning on 2/9. Since we were too early to register at our hotel (The Rio)…..we went to the Flea Market. Jim bought a few Nevada marker plates to sell….but we didn’t stay too long. We were hungry after driving for 4 hours so we headed to the Main Street Palace, in the older ‘downtown’ section of town (we were already in that section of town anyway.) We headed for the buffet and because it is Saturday, they had a champagne brunch. It was about noon, but I figured in must be 5:00 somewhere….so yes, I had champagne! (Buffet was not as good as we remembered). Jim then played a few hands of Blackjack ... read more

Hi all, Our friends, Larry & Marsha have arrived and we have been getting together about every other day. We went to Algodones, Mexico (at the Yuma, AZ border) and had a great time. I was able to purchase some metal flowers for my garden at less than half the price than they were in Tucson, AZ. Everyone goes there for prescriptions & eyeglasses (Jim got new prescription 'progressive' sunglasses for $59.00 as well as a haircut for $5.00). Liquor stores, drugstores, dentists and optical stores are plentiful as well as the locals selling their wares. A very colorful country. I also have included a few pictures of our 'Quartzsite' hummingbird and also of the Woodpecker that is often outside our RV. Cousin Evelyn has visited from CA. and we had a wonderful time. We have ... read more

Cold, cold, COLD at night!! Nothing compared to New England I know and it won't last long. We have been told by 'locals' that "winter is almost over". The days are sunny and near 60, but the nights have been in the 30's!! They tell me that by the end of Jan. it will warm up quickly. We arrived (safely) in Quartzsite on Jan. 1. It took about 5 hours, but that included 3 stops, one of which was a tour of another RV park in a different city in AZ. We don't know yet (or have plans) of where we are going to spend Feb and/or March. It won't be Quartzsite....we wanted to come here for Jan., but really there is not a lot to see or do (we both already feel like we have ... read more

I was in Quartzsite, Arizona in January of this year. My little family and I stayed in one of the mobile home/trailers that the Quartzsite Yacht Club Motel rents out. Hmmm... nothing much to recommend. Renting a trailer is not any cheaper than staying at a regular hotel, nor anymore pleasant. To do it would be just for the experience of sleeping in a converted mobile home, ah... and of course for the opportunity to just walk to your bed after partying at the Yacht Club Bar at night. Lots of country music dancing at the Yacht Club! lots of beer and cheap drinks and really good tasting fried finger foods! The bar is a must do. This was our first time at Quartzsite. It’s one of those things we’ve talked about for years, but it wasn’t the right time. There are so many places and things to do as snow birds, it takes years to explore the highlights of the various areas where snow birds migrate to during the winter. This is our winter for visiting the areas further west, so it was time to finally experience Quartzsite. We arrived here before the BIG crowds and spent a couple days getting familiar with the town. Then we left for 10 days and came back to a much busier town and surrounding area. We camped on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) 14 day land along Plomosa Road. The cost is great as it’s free. It’s an adventure to camp without hookups for water, ... read more
