Wow; it’s 2012. How did that happen? We realize that we have more new years in the bank than we have ahead, especially being mindful that my Uncle Henry’s journey through life recently ended. I enjoyed visiting him via Skype during his last year. Our little Shaddy was groomed on New Years Eve, and is looking spiffy. We celebrated his 13th birthday in early December. What a joy he is to us. He posed for a photo with Santa to celebrate the season. We grilled shrimp on the barbee for dinner on New Year’s eve. The Trail Boss fixed up some baked ‘taters and sautéed tasty zucchini. We washed it down with some deliciously smooth 2007 Bell Chardonnay that was gifted to us by friends Diane and Phil, who know their way around Napa Valley. We ... read more

Yep; we’re in Casa Grande, Arizona. We have been here a week; and what a week it has been. The same day we arrived, on December 1, we took our sweet Shaddy to the vet; his vet in C G; the same one we took him too last year when we were here. We were worried about him on account of his yelping in pain from time to time. It turned out to be impacted anal glands. They were expressed, he was given a prescription and ointment, and he is doing fine now. Nan has gone to the Woodworking Group a couple of times. She is the only female in the group, and the only chip carver. She likes the group because the members shy away from religion and politics. What’s left? Sports! I’ve been active ... read more

We arrived in Casa Grande around noon on Thursday, December 1. The drive from Yuma featured desert views, which to our surprise included cotton fields. There was a bit of blowing dust in the air, but visibility was good enough to drive on I-8 to our destination. As soon as we registered and set up at Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort, we headed to Shaddy’s vet in Casa Grande. For the past couple of days, he has been yelping from time to time about pain in his anus. The doctor did a thorough check, expressed his glands and checked for areas of pain. He did not have a fever and did not express pain in other areas. She prescribed prednisone to be taken orally, and an ointment to be applied twice a day locally. Since ... read more

We are at The Palms RV Golf Resort for a month in Casa Grande, AZ. It features an beautiful, palm laden eighteen hole executive golf course. We don’t play golf, but as we walk about the resort, we are treated to spacious views of the course. I’ve discovered lawn bowling; one of the many featured activates at the resort. I’ve completed a two day orientation and an lawn bowling emblem has been affixed to my picture ID badge. I have access to the manicured bowling green for practice and tournament play. Last week, we took our pup Shaddy to the local vet for a follow up checkup; blood pressure check and urine test. His numbers are improving after being on a special non-protein, prescription diet. Before we left home for our snowbirding trip, he was diagnosed ... read more

We drove to Casa Grande, Arizona to visit Paul & Lois Kunkle who have a new "winter Home" here. Paul & Lois gave us a grand tour of their new home and the park around it with all the facilities. It was impressive to see it. We did the usual things - played bridge, ate in interesting restaurants, talked, and did some sight seeing. We went to Picacho Peak State Park and marveled at the large Sugaro Cactus and wild flowers in bloom. We also drove up to Phoenix and had dinner with Kelly Hicks Johns one evening.... read more

We continue to bounce around southern California and Arizona... using our Western Horizon Resorts (WHR) membership. WHR is one of those buy-in campground memberships where you pay a big chunk of money up front then can camp for only $3.00 per night at member resorts. The "catch" is that we can only stay at a resort for 2 weeks (3 weeks off season) then we have to go out of the system for at least one week before we can go into another WHR resort. We don't enjoy that aspect of the membership...keeps us on the move but we don't go far or see anything new and we don't stay put long enough to really get to know anyone. So... no new territory and not much travel for this blog. But I'll bring it up to ... read more
