I didn’t see the signs. Literally, there were massive signs pointing the way and I missed all of them. I was looking for something more modest, more homemade, not two-story tall signs and bright orange arches welcoming me to the ruta de cenotes. So I missed the first turn off, and then the second. I knew at some point I was bound to turn right at a T (which is what the french man running Casitas Kinsol in Puerto Morelos told me. Of course, he also gave me directions to a restaurant around the corner I never found). So I’m driving along the turn-off and now I’m looking for a dirt road. Great, found one! Except this is more like two parallel ditches pretending to be a road. It keeps getting worse so I pull over ... read more

I've just spent almost the last month in a town called Puerto Morelos right south of Cancun, north of Playa del Carmen (which happen to be the 2 fastest growing cities in the world). Puerto Morelos is the oldest town on the shore and still retains its small-town vibe. I WWOOFed on a farm in the Zona Urbana which is actually the opposite of what it sounds, in the rural jungle/bush-mosquito-ridden area of town. The community is great with lots of kids and more hippies. I spent my time working in the gardens, helping to build a wood-fired brick oven, taking care of the animals, and going to the beach a few times a week - also to get fish tacos and a paleta while in town :) The highlights: We had a chocolate factory going, ... read more

Onwaarschijnlijk hoe relatief ... read more

Hola Subscribers! I bet you'd completely forgotten all about your subscription to my Travel Blog! We'll it's still active, but my international traveling really hasn't been. But this past weekend (23-26 April 2009), my girlfriend CC and I made a quick jaunt down to Mexico for a friend's wedding. Naturally, I've decided to blog our experiences at the Azul Sensatori resort, which is located between Cancún and Playa del Carmen, just a little bit north of Puerto Morelos. It'll kind of be a review of the resort and a recap of the weekend. Somewhat different from my previous blogs, but I think/hope you will enjoy it just the same. Cheers! Kev... read more

Hola, THURSDAY: We left really early. How early? 550am early! Which, of course, meant that we had to get up at about 4am, to get to the airport in plenty of time to eat something and then get to the gate. Anyways, the only highlight of that first trip was the group of golfing buddies that clambered onto the plane behind us, headed to a weekend of who-knows-what in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. They had no doubt begun to make the most of their weekend free pass away from their wives and kids, and their giddiness created all kinds of noise throughout the flight to Atlanta as they shared their inside jokes and ragged on each other. Thinking that we smelled a hint of booze emanating from them, CC and I did not find the volume ... read more

Hola, When my friend Sarah and her fiancée Dylan got engaged last year, they decided to have a destination wedding in Mexico. I really didn't think I'd be able to attend, since it was a) in Mexico, b) during the school year and c) not on one of our breaks from class. However, back in December, my girlfriend CC and I talked about it and decided this was an opportunity that we just couldn't pass up. So we found flights on Delta and booked our reservation and then we waited for what seemed like four years, rather than just four months. In the meantime, the all-inclusive resort where Sarah and Dylan had booked their wedding package - Azul Fives, a brand-new place that was supposed to open in January - experienced some delays and management realized ... read more

Day 5 - We move to the Riviera Maya We're sad this morning as we have to check out of the Aqua Cancun and move onto the next hotel we're staying at. All our luggage seems to have doubled in size with all the souvenirs we've bought so we squeeze everything in and check out. Before we head down the coast we go into Downtown Cancun to market 28. This is definitely the place for haggling and getting some bargains, with all sorts of gifts and souvenirs. Unfortunately the heavens decided to open and we got drenched in a sudden downpour. We buy a few ceramics and a nice handbag and try not to get too wet. After drying ourselves off we head out to the Moon Palace. Located at the start of the Riviera ... read more

Monday, January 21, 2008 The subject just means (quote)How to log in(end quote). Has anyone used a Mexican keyboard before? They have to have quotation marks somewhere... Alex is in bed and does not want to get up. I think he has a cold. Again. Or maybe still is more appropriate. His doc put him on a Z-pack before we left for just in case. He has been cold like for about two months. Now he is back to square one, no appetite, ache, and stuffy. I just went to their store to get health food for dinner...chips, water, and cookies. We do not have a fridge in the room for anything perishable. Alex wants me to go to the time share breakfast presentation just to see what he and Jamie went through. They had us ... read more
