I was up and ready for the gym by 6:50 which was a lovely change from the usual exhausted sleep ins. We went to the gym (overlooking the water) and then went to the buffet for breakfast which was AWESOME! We then got straight into our swimmers and went to the beach, buffet for lunch, then we tried out the 'adults only' pool which was cool as there were no kids, spas and a swim up bar! We sunbaked for a while and made use of the bar! We also got a lot of joy at how shocked some of the Mexican people who worked there were at how tall we were. One even started talking to us and said, 'but what do you eat!?' haha. Ouch. That night we went to the adults only French ... read more

Today we got up had breki and got ready for our speed boat and snorkeling tour at the marina not far from the resort. This was the first time we had left the resort since we'd got there so I was psyched. The speed boat was fun and the beaches and bays were beautiful and the water was a beautiful clear blue/ green. When we pulled up to go snorkelling I was terrified as it was the darker water we had come across, but as soon as you put your head under the water it was beautiful. Laura had forgotten that she was terrified of fish which was hilarious as they were not scared of us and were swimming right up to us. They also have a 'museum' (man made) Under the water which was pretty cool. ... read more

Slept in, buffet breki, laziness by the pool, buffet lunch, sunbaking and drinking at the adults pool/ swim up bar where we met Becky and Al- a middle aged couple who were extremely friendly and like most americans we've met totally amazed by our trip, dinner, then to our besty bar tenders at Collage Bar. It was very busy in the bar this night and El Fino and Miquel were consistently putting drinks, shooters and shots in front of us even though I was willing for water. Haha. We then commenced to make friends with a lot of people including the couple who had just got married, three under age girls, a Scottish couple who LOVED us and introduced us to there young daughters and said they wanted them to turn out like us! Haha. Us, ... read more

We were up and ready early even though we didn't need to leave until 11:30. At our last big buffet breakfast I was soo depressed! Our shuttle took us to the airport, our flights and stop over went fine and we got into Miami by 10:30. Getting back into the USA took forever, our line was extremely slow and a lady came and found us and said our bags were waiting near a carousel, everyone else had got through, and it was just us, waiting for this guy to HURRY UP!We weren't really in a hurry though as we were 'sleeping' in the airport that night before our flight to Washington DC at 8:30 the next morning.... read more

We woke at about midday/ one o'clock feeling very sick and trying to recall what the hell had happened the night before, as well as realising we'd ordered room service for that morning which we must have slept through :/We slowly pieced the night together but I have absolutely no idea where my awesome orange thongs that I bought in Miami went! It poured most of that day and we stayed in bed for most of it watching E! only braving the day for Lunch and then dinner at the Mexican restaurant.... read more

With a year or more ahead of us, we're in no hurry to race to the local tourist attractions, temples, beaches or must see sites. In fact we found ourselves in the heart of Cancun's Hotel Strip inside a Starbuck's not so much for the drinks but for the Wifi. And on our inaugral day the first crisis struck. Coming out of her backpack, Amei's Air Book was hotter than a habenero chili. Worse, the screen was blank and pushing the power button did nothing. Could it be that her brand new Apple computer was now fried before our trip got going. Utilizing my IPad searching for Apple stores in Cancun, there are none, but there is an I Store that is similar, we had hope. In the meantime, the computer had cooled, restarted and seemed ... read more

This morning, we had a lie in. Breakfast – toast – was a little disappointing. We caught the bus to the hotel zone and decided to stay on it a little longer to see if we could find a different beach to the one we’d been to before – variety is the spice of life after all! We got off by a load of very exclusive looking hotels and a shopping development. We spent some time looking for a bikini top for me as it disappeared in the mess that was the girls’ dorm room but everything was really expensive - £40-50 just for a bikini! We gave up and walked to where we thought the beach was. The only way to get to it would be through the lobby one of the huge hotels, so ... read more

Cancun. Where do I start? There had been talk when the Welsh boys were with us in Merida that a load of us could come visit them on their final weekend for Spring break. When it came down to it, there were just 4 of us, now known as 'the Cancun 4'. Hannah, Joe, Adam and I. We left on Friday afternoon. According to my timetable that Rosario, Tila's assistant, had done, I was free, but the rota in the kitchen said I was supposed to be at Kanasin. I only found this out about half an hour before we were due to leave and wasn't prepared to change my plans which meant they were a bit short of help at Kanasin. Sam and Becca had a go at me for it but I had already ... read more
It had been a long time since I'd seen the sea, but I'd never seen sand this white and sea this blue. Paradise!

Just before leaving Tulum I visited the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, not far from where I am staying. The Reserve covers 1.5 million acres and is a protected UNESCO World Heritage site. I went with an organisation called Cesiak who do eco-tourism and environmental education, for the afternoon canal tour . We went through the mangroves, floated down the canals looking at bird life and flora and fauna, and enjoyed a delicious dinner afterwards. My birdwatching days from Ecuador came back! I loved it. It was highly educational, and sadly not all that I've learned is good news. Our guide, Hugo, is passionate about people and the environment learning to live together in a sustainable way, and he was scathing about the all-inclusive resorts in Cancun and Playa del Carmen and how they are impacting the ... read more
