They have been hunted to near extinction by the whalers in the nineteenth century. Many hunts were carried out in the lagoons of Baja Mexico where the whales would come during the winter to give birth. They still come to the same lagoons in Baja California for mating and giving birth. The gray whale, that had been nicknamed the Devilfish by the whalers due to its ferocious attacks on the whaling boats then, is now a friendly whale that seems to seek some connection with the humans! ... read more

Leaving from mile 53 on the east coast north of San Jose del Cabo, we ventured across the mountains on a 40 km trail to the west coast. A trail it was, wash outs, no signs, no GPS that worked, we had to get out of the car to lessen the weight, push, pull or pray. The sign on the main highway said revacucation beneficiary 277,000 pop. Would you think that the habitation would be plentiful . But Not we where on are own for the 4.5 hours it took us to go 40 kms . But we also were driving a Nissan March rent a car. Aboard the California Star ferry crossing from La Paz in Baja California Sur to Los Mochis in mainland Mexico. And reflecting on the last two weeks of our travels. After leaving LA via bus from Long Beach LA to San Diego. We loved San Diego lay back city and very friendly. Strolling through the city and the board walk on sunny days, people enjoying the promenade cyclists, walkers and dog walkers we felt it wasn't unlike Brisbane. We found the Saturday food markets that offer a array of food tasting of local produce from Guacamole, Cheeses, Chilli dips and Salsas and wines. With the emphasis on the Mexican cuisine. A clean city with easy light trolleys and buses. We visited the Aircraft carrier The Midway a WW2 aircraft carrier which was fabulous, it enabled me to ... read more
