The current "Wilf Perreault: In the Alley" exhibition at Regina’s McKenzie Art Gallery has over 40 paintings & watercolours which trace Perreault's fascination with the unlikely urban icon of back alleys. The exhibition runs Sept. 27 2014 to Jan. 4 2015. Wilf Perreault, who still lives and works in Regina, SK, is one of Saskatchewan’s most celebrated painters as well as one of the most interesting contemporary landscape painters in Canada. This former High School art teacher is best known for his paintings of everyday back alleys. His paintings have been exhibited widely since his first solo exhibition at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Regina in 1978. Wilf Perreault was born in 1947 in the small French community of Albertville, Saskatchewan. He grew up in Saskatoon where he received private art lessons from a neighbour, the ... read more

Boy it is difficult to choose from the 1750 photos I took this trip . Yesterday I did narrow it down to 300 hard copies which you are welcome to view any time . For now here are a few from Mandalay that I thought you might enjoy ... and get a flavour of that city and region. If you click on a photo it will enlarge to give you a better view.... read more

Adventurous travel is not easy. If it were, it wouldn't be an adventure, it would be a vacation. We'd like to believe that we are adventurers and problem solvers, not vacationers. What we seek in travel is to meet people from other cultures; to develop more understanding, patience, and compassion; to better appreciate the many choices we have had in our lives; and to continually seek ways to somehow give back. Along the way, we have the privilege of seeing sights and sharing experiences that most people only dream of, as we are, after all, dreamchasers. It is exciting, it is amazing, and it is humbling, but it is not always easy. I will admit I have become complacent in the last few months - relishing for the first time in as long as I can ... read more

GMA here! Alisha wanted me to write about our trip to Canada with the grandkids. This part of the vacation should be called the Folly, not the adventure. What an adventure....2 teenagers in a car for hours can be a real treat. We headed to Glacier National Park in Montana. After a couple of hours of driving thru the Park, Megan of course wanted to know where all the glaciers are were. I explained that with the weather change they had melted. There was half of what was there 20 years ago when we first visited the park. We then headed to the border, and after crossing we saw miles and miles of yellow fields. We found out later it was Canola flowers. Next stop, Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump. Art and I visited this park ... read more

A few years ago there had been a very clever advertisement directed at travellers who have completed their careers, and finished raising their families, but have not in the process lost their youthful spirit of adventure, and are now set to pick up where they left off - way back when they had no responsibilities - and continue their global wandering. It featured a plane taking off into the sunset and was accompanied by the caption "Remember when the kids wanted to run away from home?" We thought about finding that image and posting it on this final blog entry, but decided instead to use one of our own photos, captured as we flew our own skies, into the new sunsets and sunrises that await us. And we are not running away from anything. Instead, we ... read more

Okay, it's the night before we board the big bird and yes, we are totally pumped. Can't say its gonna be easy to get to sleep tonight, but probably should cause we'll be travelling a solid twenty four before we get to lay the heads down on a real pillow again when we arrive in Bangkok. And although I know it's gonna be a hot one there, I promise not to complain about the heat, cause I am leaving Saskatchewan's answer to the Arctic, and I'm not gonna lie, it feels real good.... read more

Hello from the Prairies! We were in Winnipeg for such a long time that it was great to start heading west again! The temps have been freakishly warm out here! The first place we stopped was a little community called Elie. We had 3 MB's there one of which was the mother of Tim McClain. I'm sure everyone will remember the horrific event 3 years ago on the Greyhound bus when Tim was murdered and decapated. Debbie was one of the strongest women I have met. Her anger at the system has made her this way. Vince Li was found NCR (not criminally responsible) and also doubles for "no criminal record". He will be released very soon. She is fighting the system to change the laws. She has some incredible stories of other cases that were ... read more
