Canada's paramount political problem is meeting public demands for quality improvements in health care and education services after a decade of budget cuts. The issue of reconciling Quebec's francophone heritage with the majority anglophone Canadian population has moved to the back burner in recent years; support for separatism abated after the Quebec government's referendum on independence failed to pass in October of 1995.

hallo luitjes hier even een beknopte versie van de afgelopen dagen. na dat ons vliegtuig in amsterdam te laat weg ging door de storm miste we onze vlucht van londen naar montreal na lang mouwen werden we afgescheept met een vlucht naar toronto (aar had toen al redelijk last van zijn aars) eenmaal aangekomen in toronto moesten we eerst onze visa regelen waardoor we onze vlucht naar ons montreal weer misliepen!! dus weer 4 uur later als nog deze vlucht gehaald (weer na veel smeken uiterraard) maar goed van toronto naar montreal is ongeveer 1 a 1,5 uur. als alles ging [View Full Entry]

It is finally time to say au revoir to Montreal. I have loved the city and am sad to leave it behind. On Valentine's Day when I got back from San Francisco, we went to the Opera to see Barber of Seville and sat in a posh box! Since then we have watched a lunar eclipse from a candlelit car, been to a Montreal Canadiens Hockey game, out for an amazing dinner at La Montee de Lait (10 courses!) and to a Quebecois folk music bar. Montreal is an island and a city. The Metro is well situated and all 68 stations are beautifully presented with art work in them all. The Metro was completed in 1966 in time for Expo 67 and the centenary of Canadian Confederation. The Olympic site from 1976 is still as breathtaking as ever. The Velodrome has been turned into a Biosphere where you can see and smell penguins ... among other things. In the downtown area can be found a quarter sized replica of Notre Dame. Spring is around the corner! And guess what that means…spring training! After an amazing summer, I crashed and burned down the summer homestretch to find myself out of playoff contention.
