(Lat: 43.639/Long -79.393) To the NE is the famous SkyDome and CN Tower lots of info on those in all the guides. I was downtown early 90s when Carter hit the winning home run that gave the BlueJays baseball team their second world series win in a row two years running. I was not in the Dome but you could hear the cheers from miles away, everyone was honking horns, was an amazing time. However what might not be in the guide and is probably only temporary is the Presentation Centre just west of the Dome. It has a big model of downtown with all the new buildings going up. More for prospective home condo owners but free to go inside, free cookies and coffee, and a portal into the future of what toronto will look ... read more

On the SE side is the Hummingbird Centre which has plays, ballets, concerts etc have seen Riverdance, King and I there. Used to be called the O'Keefe centre. Just to the east of this is the famous Saint Lawrence Market and to north and south of that are two buildings that resemble the "Flatiron" building in NY. The smaller one has a large "window" painted on it. To the NE is a "Shopsys" restaurant specializing in all kinds of hot dogs and to the NW is the Hockey Hall of Fame a main Toronto attraction. It used to be a bank and any book about ghosts in Toronto will tell the tale of a teller named Dorothy who is said to haunt there. Just beside it west is a stylish restaurant called Agcua. To the SW ... read more

To the NW is the Air Canada Centre (ACC) home of the Toronto Raptors Basketball team and hosts concerts like Cher, Rolling Stones, Prince etc, ice hockey (Maple Laafs), and other events that the Skydome to the west is too big for. The facade of the building is a historical art deco old post office that was kept but everything else is brand new. Look at the wonderful releifs carved in the stone of various scenes. If you are lucky enough to watch an event from one of the corporate boxes at the top you get all you can eat and drink served by dedicated wait staff. To the north east and south east, south west are parking lots but new condos are going up there. Above is the Gardiner expressway there is talk of putting ... read more

The foot of Toronto and the end of the longest road in North America. In fact on the sidewalk just SE gives distances to towns near and far and more info on Yonge (loops right around to Thunder Bay). Just south of this is Captain John's restaurant on a converted fishing vessel. Street musicians sometimes play here. Tall ships also go on lake cruises from the docks SE at the foot of the parking lots. Just SW is the Westin Harbour castle hotel (see BayAndQueensQuayWest) also a high speed ferry that goes to St. Catherines near Niagara-on-the-lake and the US side of Lake Ontario). NE is the Toronto Star building (Hemmingway used to work at the Star but it was on King's street in those days. They sent him all over the world which allowed him ... read more

(Lat N 43° 38.388 /Long W 079° 22.810) A good starting point for a traveller to toronto. There is a historical Blue "Pier 6" at this intersection which is also at the lake, recessed like an inlet much of this is reclaimed land before the 20s the lake came up to Lakeshore blvd. There is a 2nd Cup coffee shop inside and lots of flyers about events and places in the city. To the west is QueensQuay Terminal which has many shops and restaurants also businesses and expensive residences at the top. To the east are nice condos (Harbour Square) there is a boardwalk in front, water taxis and a garden/sculpture/miniature waterfall on the south east side. You can see the planes landing at the Toronto Island airport and the Toronto Islands themselves. You used to ... read more

First stop on the LRT (Light Rail Transit) to NW is waterpark place very similar to the World Financial Centre in NY (even has a small "Winter Garden" with palms) but don't think it is the same Architects. LRT is little known even by locals with it you can get to/from the subway line (Union Station) to/from any point on the (western) waterfront easily one fare covers both as they are part of the TTC system. Otherwise it is a 2 block walk to/from Union station which is nice but depending on time and weather LRT can be easier. A Spotnik WiFi hotspot is in the Piazza Manna eatery on the east side of the building. Piazza Manna has free pizza slices after 5pm and a nice purple pool table. Many office staffers from Waterpark hang ... read more

During the last two weeks of my exchange I decided to go to Canada to visit family friends. I caught a flight to Buffalo and then Bobby pick me and drove me across the border into Canada. Gill and Bobby saw to it that I got to see as much as possible during my stay there and also that I tried as much food as possible (I wasn't complaining). The Niagara Falls were incredible - I couldn't believe the mass of water flowing over the top. We walked around for about half a day going under the falls (through a tunnel) and trying to see as many view points as possible. Next I went to the CN Tower. Right at the top is a viewing deck (enclosed) and a thick glass floor which people can use ... read more
