On Thursday night, we took a walk down Church Street, which is the gay neighbourhood in Toronto. The neighbourhood was nice with some cool litttle houses tucked away down the side streets. It looked strange with these little houses right next to some giant skyscrapers. We had dinner at a restaurant called Fuzion on Church Street and it was their Martini and tapas night. We had a few different types of tapas and a couple of cocktails each but the piece de resistance were the Caesar Oyster shooters they had on the tapas menu. They were mini Bloody Caesars with an oyster and topped with celery foam. We had to have second helpings of those as they were so delicious. The Martinis (Rachel and I thought Martini's were drinks containing Martini and hence we werent too ... read more

When we arrived i was filled with excitment all I wanted to do was run and see the cows. And thats exactly what I did. Also right after that theres a ledge in a barn where you can jump into hay so i just had to do it for old times sake.(it was a shorter than I remember..) After that we then proceeded to the corn maze but silly us there was no corn as of yes so that was a let down. So in lue of the corn maze i rode the little kid tire horse things. After ... read more

Our second full day in Toronto and Rachel, Darina and I headed to West Queen West, in the west (suprisingly) of Toronto which is young, quirky and funky. It was full of little shops selling expensive designer clothes, antique shops, tattoo parlours and little cute restaurants. It was quiet (because it was a weekday and everyone was at work or school). The weather was and still is great here, around 30 degrees again. There was a nice breeze today to keep us cool though which made it a bit more bearable. Darina introduced Rachel and I to a traditional Canadian cocktail today (at lunchtime, naughty us, but hey we are on our honeymoon so we can do what we want!!) It is called a Bloody Caesar and is made with: Clamatoe Juice (clam and tomato juice!), ... read more

We finally arrived at our first destination Toronto. Depsite the one day delay (British Airways strikes) we got here ok and spent last night in the beautiful Toronto Hyatt, we had champagne and chocolate strawberries waiting for us when we got to our room! (We arent doing the whole trip in luxury but thought we deserved a treat on the first night of our honeymoon!) After a good night's sleep we had a morning in the spa and then wandered round downtown Toronto this afternoon. We are now relaxing at our friend Darina's who we are staying with for the next two weeks. Sushi for dinner tonight. The weather is amazing, 32 degrees, pure sunshine. Lovely jubbly. Will try and get some photos up soon. x... read more

So I've buckled to the "pressure" (i.e. requests from a couple of friends) and decided to create a travel blog. I'm not going on vacation, or backpacking (at least in the traditional sense), rather I'll still be working full-time and will still be in the same province -- just a different part of the province. And Ontario is a fairly big province. In three days I'll be leaving my downtown Toronto condo to live and work in Northern Ontario for six months. How did I come across such an opportunity? Well, I happen to be fortunate enough to have found a job where I get to do what I love, biology and environmental work. The organization that I work for is based out of Toronto (hence my current location) but operates across the entire province, including ... read more

Flew into Toronto on May 13th from Bangkok A big contrast between western cities and Asian cities is the pedestrian right-of-way. In Asia a bigger vehicle has right of way over a smaller vehicle and a smaller vehicle has right of way over pedestrians. Pedestrians are at the bottom of the list. They even have to walk around dogs sleeping on the sidewalk. Here in Toronto, cars inch around a right hand turn lest a pedestrian runs in front of them. I can't help smiling when I step off the curb, although I'm not as unaware as most of the people here have become. When the light is green they go. Whether some drunk or dozy driver is running the red doesn't seem to occur to them. Even mothers pushing baby buggies seldom look both ways ... read more

Yup, only four sleeps left. It seems like we've been planning this trip forever and now we're down to four sleeps. It's pretty surreal. I think I'll believe it when we get off the plane in Hong Kong. We'll still have to get on another plane to get to Kuala Lumpur, but I'm pretty sure Hong Kong's airport will look a little different from Pearson International and I'll know I'm not in Canada any more. Let me backtrack a bit and tell you who we are. There are three of us - me (Lynda), Caron and Jen. Caron and I are a mission to visit all 30 major league baseball parks, but when Jen suggested we go home to Kuala Lumpur with her this year, we only hesitated for a nanosecond or so before we agreed. ... read more
