We got a little bit of a sleep in today which was much needed as we woke feeling like rubbish. Too many drinks and not enough sleep will do that to you. We had to meet in the lobby at 10:45 for our tour of the CN Tower. It is a communications and observation tower standing 553.3 metres (1,815 ft) tall. It surpassed the height of the Ostankino Tower while still under construction in 1975, becoming the tallest free-standing structure on land in the world for the next 31 years. On September 12, 2007 the CN Tower was surpassed in height by Burj Khalifa (formerly known as Burj Dubai). It remains the tallest free-standing structure in the Western Hemisphere, the signature icon of Toronto's skyline, and a symbol of Canada. At the top there is a ... read more

So Team Ted has been enjoying the off-season for the past few weeks since settling back in Toronto, but have decided it's now time to get into some pre-season training. Off-season antics include: - Moving into our lovely wee attic flat in quaint Cabbagetown. Yes, that really is the name of our area. And we love it here! Our flat is tiny (although palatial when compared to our London digs) but it is at the top of a gorgeous 3-storey Victorian brick house, with our adorable landlady living below in the rest of the house. We have access to the lovely garden and with the sensational weather we've been having we have been taking full advantage of the BBQ. - Speaking of the weather (yes, we are truly English now with our obsession with the weather) ... read more

Since Russ and I separated after we saw his parent in Las Vegas I travelled north to Seattle. Managed to finally do washing and see the sights of Seattle in about 4 hours. Not much to do, so got the bus up to Vancouver. I spent a week with my Dad's brother and his wife who looked after me well. Spent time downtown, shoping for jumpers as its cold there! No longer 30 degrees, more like 15 with rain! From there I went on a bus trip in to the Rockies. Our first night was spent at Shuswap lake, after driving an eternity from vancouver to get there. The scenery on the way was stunning. I saw on the floor at the front of the bus taking photos out the door and the windscreen. Arent u ... read more

the day started early with a 7am bags to coash as it was a very long drive to toronto, ontario. i slept for the first 2 or so hours of the trip before our first stop at a servo/maccas. we then drove for another probably hour and abit where justin put on the movie Youngblood starring a very young rob lowe, patrick swayze and keanu reeves doing a terrible french canadian accent. it was a hockey movie and i fell asleep in the first half. our second stop for the day was at rockport, ontario to do our 1hr '1000 islands boat cruise'. it was pretty overcast but we still got some good pics of all the houses of the little islands and of Boldt Castle. After the cruise we drove for probably just over and ... read more

When I was 5, I lived in Canada for a couple of years and became a big fan of Ice Hockey, so I was very excited to be visiting the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. Rachel wasnt quite as excited as me understandably!! The Hall of Fame was basically a collection of a lot of hockey memorabilia, shirts, trophies, equipment etc etc, all worn by famous players in famous matches. I was particularly happy to see alot of stuff about Wayne Gretzky (the greatest hockey player ever) who was in his prime and playing for my local team, the Edmondton Oilers, when we lived in Canada. We watched a short film about the history of the Stanley Cup (the biggest prize in hockey bar the Olympic gold medal) which helped Rach understand the game a ... read more

Hello everyone.... a big update this evening! On Friday, we went right into downtown Toronto near the main train station and had a long walk around. We started out by going to the CN Tower and the Rogers Centre Skydome. The Rogers Centre is the stadium where the Toronto Blue Jays baseball team play, we aren't sure whether we will get to a game, but we will try. The CN Tower is obviously the main tourist attraction in Toronto and the tallest free standing tower in the world and one of the main places we wanted to go whilst we are here... we got to the lift but an uncharacteristic attack of the nerves from myself put paid to our visit! We got a refund so will go back before we leave. After my case of ... read more

The final part of tonight's blogging. Today dawned even brighter and hotter than Saturday so we took the executive decision to stay fairly local to the apartment for the day. Rachel and Darina went out for brunch whilst I had a very well deserved lie in (this seven month holiday lark is hard work dontcha know!) When they got back we all headed out towards the university area of the city. We just walked around and did nothing in particular which was actually quite nice. Parts of the university were lovely and the campus is spread over a really large area of Toronto. Once we had finished walking round, we called in to the supermarket and the LCBO. The LCBO (Licquor Control Board of Ontario) is a shop where you can buy beers, wines and other ... read more

Part Two of tonight's blog marathon! Saturday 29th May On Saturday, with the sun shining and the thermometer pushing 30 degrees centigrade, Rachel, Darina and myself headed for a lovely brunch at a cool restaurant called Fire on the East Side, where we stuffed ourselves with delicious food. We took a metro and streetcar (tram) to East Toronto and the shores of Lake Ontario. The neighbourhood is called The Beaches and was full of little shops, beautiful beach houses and bars with patios built for a day like Saturday. We walked along the beach and through the leafy side streets until brunch wore off and we needed to refuel. So we stopped at first, a sweet shop, which turned out to be more than that. It had its very own little corner of Britain inside, particularly ... read more

We landed in Toronto around 1pm Friday afternoon and the sun was shining. Through baggage collection, customs, and immigration then to the shuttle bus much without too many delays. Our hotel is one of the biggest in Toronto, if not the biggest with 1,300 rooms and the shuttle took us to the door step for a mere $19. The prime minister is staying at our hotel and when the Queen is in town she grabs a room here as well. It is the Fairmont Royal York (www.fairmont.com/royalyork/) and it is amazing. We go settled then made our way to the CN Tower (www.cntower.ca). We went up to the Look Out, then I went higher the Sky Pod and walked on the glass floor. We sipped champagne cocktails at the Horizons restaurant and watched the sun set. ... read more

I arrived in Toronto this morning at 5:30 local time. I only slept about 3 hours last night. I was disappointed that both LAX and Toronto airports didn't have free wifi. I took a shuttle bus to downtown Toronto for 33 bucks round trip. I was walking around the city but not much was open at 7:30 in the morning. I walked to the CN tower and I am now inside the Rogers Centre where the Blue Jays play. I couldn't find free wifi anywhere in this city but I figured the hotel inside the stadium would have it. I guess I looked like I was staying here cause the lady at the front desk gave me the access code without even asking my room number or if I was even staying here. I am thinking ... read more
