We have finally stopped driving long enough to up date you all to where we have been in almost 10,000 kms!! We did a day trip to the reef, saw lots of fishes but no turtles. The current was quite strong and had to swim hard to stay near the reef and not land on top of it. The boat rocked lots, and we both felt a little relieved to get off at the end of the day! When we were at Daintree we did a boat trip and saw lots of crocs on the river banks, thankfully they are not [View Full Entry]

Looked around the city not much there, yet more wats (yes Kim they do all look the same), a palace, church called Notre Dam....., old art deco post office. Lots of ppl having weddin pics done, Russ found his vietnamese bride, she just didnt know it- see photo. Got bus to China town, not much there either, [View Full Entry]

We made it out of Hoi An :). Had an interesting few days there. We arrived to find the hurricane hit just off the coast of Hue where we moved from. It was still windy and raining on arrival here. The next day it was so bad we spent the whole morning in a cafe, had both breakfast and lunch there! There was a break in the weather in the afternoon and we managed to see the Japanese bridge and walk some of the streets in the old town. We were watching ppl rescue their motorbikes out of the flooded area [View Full Entry]

Luang Purbang, on the top of a hill the view from the temple at the top
We have made it to Vietnam. Having crossed from Thailand to Laos via a slow (very slow) boat down the Mekong River for 2 days. Boat was a longer version of a canal boat, and used to be used to ship cargo up and down the River. Now they have very kindly shoved many hard wooden benches for all the tourists to sit on, so a comfy trip it was NOT. We sat on the life jackets to save our numb bums:) Arrived in Luang Purbang, Laos spent a few days looking at Wats (temples) palace. Moved on to Vang Vieng [View Full Entry]

Just got back from 3 days in the jungle. We walked up a ridiculous number of hills and then down again whilst sweating buckets as it is 35 degrees outside. We rode an elephant through a bog, up a stream and camped over night in a bamboo hut in a hill top tribe village. The next day we walked some more!! Stopped off at 2 waterfalls, saw tarantulas and bats. Stayed the second night in a really basic- no electric hut. Where the dogs, pigs and chicken lived underneath and were woken up by the cocks crowing. They cooked inside the [View Full Entry]

Burn bodys Burn Asia
So weve left the elephant project. On our middle weekend of the project we went to Agra to see the Taj Mahal. We were both disappointed, it was really expensive to get in, we got there at 5.30am to watch the sunrise, but they didnt open security til 5.45, and then the ipod and Carina's toy pig was not allowed. Total waste of sleep time!! Once we left the project we did an overnight trip of a bus, walk, train, auto rickshaw, bus to Khajuraho. This is where there are loads of temples with carvings of ppl having sex, erotic images, [View Full Entry]

Elephant Project Asia » India » Rajasthan » Jaipur
We have been doing the elephant project in Jaipur. Last week we had to get them ready for their days work at Amber Fort. They take ppl up to the fort which is on the top of a hill. This means we had to get up at 4.30am in order to get a rickshaw for 5.15!!!! The 5 elephants live in an enclosure quite close to the fort. They sleep under a shelter and then there are huts the other side where the elephant drivers and their family sleeps. When they are home they are chained up by 3 feet. Its [View Full Entry]

Part 2 Asia
So continuing the trip. We got a bus from Jalgaon to Ahmedabad. We stayed in the cleanest room yet. We saw mosques, went to a fort which isnt an official site, we had to go thru the offices of the Archiological dept to find the stairs to the roof. Then we just wondered around the rooftop climbing up and down towers, got a good view of the market. Saw the old city wall and an old archway, then went into a mosque, it was huge and of course it had goats walking around inside!! Next day we went to 2 museums, [View Full Entry]
