To FrederictonBrad and Treena From Charlottetown PEI, to here in Fredericton has been our most consistent biking of the trip. We are consisitently biking 100km day after day, and are now giving ourselves a break. Today is the first day we have had off since we started cycling again from Stephenville. From Charlottetown we rode 60km to the Confederation Bridge. Bikes are not allowed on the bridge, so we had to be shuttled across. There is a toll booth, cameras, traffic workers who think they are cops, its not one of those things where you can just go for it. It is also 12, or maybe 20 km long. We stopped for snacks after the shuttle. and biked another 50 km to where we camped. We had 2 more hugely rewarding days to follow. The first ... read more

We are Nancy and Hector, leaving on January 3, 2007 for a 4 month trip. We are celebrating Nancy's retirement after 35 years as an educator. This trip is intended to break the 'think about work all the time' mode whihc has been part of Nancy's life for many years. We will return to some places for which we have fond memories from earlier trips, reconnect with old friends, and visit new locations that we have always wanted to see. We plan to travel through New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Lesotho, Qatar and Spain between January and end of April. This blog will allow our many family members and friends to share our experiences.... read more

I’ve had trouble contacting the hostel in Fredericton to tell them that I wanted to cancel my booking. I’ve tried contacting them all the way back since I was in New York, but all I get is an answering machine with my cell phone number. I’m going to be spending the night at Kryssie’s house after what will be a huge Thanksgiving meal! I wait for a hotel shuttle outside of the Royal York Hotel. There’s a beggar asking for a cigarette, which I don’t have but he also wishes me a nice day. It’s a shame I don’t smoke because I would have given him one after that. He forgets who I am, because about 7 minutes later, he asks me again if I have a spare cigarette. The bus heads out towards Lester ... read more

So the weekend that we have been looking forward to all summer has arrived, the long weekend at the cottage! This weekend is a tradition with our extended family; we all gather for a rockus weekend of fishing, horseshoes, golf, visiting, and of course eating. Good times were had by all. Even for Dan although the 79 new faces of our multitude of relatives were somewhat overwhelming. Thanks to all my very generous family members who were very supportive for our cause. The two weeks up to this point were quite something. Last we checked in was Ottawa. While on the way out of Ottawa we stopped in a at bike shop and met Marc, a friendly frenchman (they DO exist Dave) who was so excited about the idea that he decided to join us! It ... read more

I like the feeling of this place for reasons similar to why I liked Halifax. It is old, at least old in terms of Canada's history; has a military history that is still displayed; and it has a university right in the middle of the city. I walked through the university grounds and then throughout the city centre, checking out coffee houses and pubs. The slogan of Fredericton is "Let our life flow through you", and I did, on the backs of several pints of good, local beer. The art gallery has as one of its permanent displays, the Krieghoff collection. I've seen prints of his pictures many times, as have most of us, but seeing the original painting of a picture like 'The Toll Gate' stirred my imagination even more. It is a display of ... read more

Fredericton was the first stop of this three province journey. I fell in love with more than one thing there. Considering returning there someday, but second-guessing my motives of course. The love of the Saint John River.... read more
