Hey Guys time for a bit of a catch up. This is what I wrote on June 14th for a journal entry. I’m writing this Blog form a lovely little flat in the middle of Vancouver. Lace and I are staying with a couple of her mates from home Tommo and Ali. Vancouver Island was great, all the people we meet where so laid back and friendly. We had a bit of a mishap on our second day in Tofino though. We had hired some bikes and successfully biked to some of the beaches further out of Tofino (it was awesome to be back at the sea) Then Kate the idiot decided she would roll her ankle!!!!! She actually hurt herself really bad and we thought it might have been broken. But Lacey is as hard ... read more

Well this post is mainly to put up some cool forest pics. I finally got out of town after being back home for a month--Trevor's brother has been working on an eco-village near Vancouver and we went to pick him up and bring him down to California. We ended up driving about 1000 miles in four days. Anyway these pics are from the mountain next to the eco-village, the rest are from the Tall Ships festival here in Tacoma. Enjoy!... read more

Final preparations to the camper To our great delight, the new poptop canvas we ordered at the end of May arrived Friday, so we will have it in place for the trip. We’re having it installed tomorrow at Go West. They will also replace our incandescent light fixture with a fluorescent one - hopefully keeping the camper cooler on hot nights, and saving the battery as well. We are hoping the used Bentley manual Kath ordered last week will also arrive before we leave. This is the official Westy repair manual, which many Westy owners like to keep in the vehicle, in case they run into mechanical problems far away from the nearest good VW mechanic. We have also packed the list of reputable VW mechanics in BC and Alberta, which we downloaded from Roadhaus Website ... read more

I wish I could say that my flight to London was uneventful, but it wasn't so, not since the very beginning. After spening the night before in LAX, or more like, after a futile attempt at a night's sleep in LAX, we dragged ourselves to Air Canada counter at 5 AM, ready for our flight at 740AM only to find out that there was a huge line already. After spending 45 mins in the line, we were told that I needed a Canadian visa. I thought they misunderstood me, I said, "I'm not going to Canada, it's just a layover." They go, "Well, you still need a visa. But we can book you for the next day flight if you want." Looking back at it, we considered ourselves lucky, another Brazilian/German couple who had the same ... read more

I had bewn longing to visit Canada for years, and to tell you the truth when I finally got on that plane I was full of anticipation and the worry of not actually liking what I found. Well, I ended up really liking Vancouver, what's not to like? The Canadians were all friendly, the food was good, the wildlife and environment amazing. I stayed at the Sylvia hotel which was located on English Bay, it was alright but the room was very cold. We ate at the Banana Leaf around the corner, great food and atmosphere, and v cheap. We did the usual things I think most tourists do there, we went to Granville Island, checked out all of the suburbs and walked accross the Capiliano Bridge and we also went whale watching, which was the ... read more

I can't believe I'm actually doing this, the most irresponsible (and exciting) summer excursion of my life. The fact that I moved my departure date up and gave myself about a week to buy and pack everything probably wasn't the best idea either. In any event, I'm packed, and almost ready to go. I still have to clean up my room of course, but that doesn't technically have to be done before I take off. One consequence of my speedy departure was that school-related administrative stuff has been a royal headache. I actually still have to somehow get a hold of a hard-copy student loan application tomorrow and send it off before I take off (and I don't even want to think about job application packages I'm supposed to have done come August). Word of advice: ... read more

We landed in Vancouver and took an other rental car for over two weeks. Instead of relaxing from the flight we drove directely to Calgery (took us 2 days to get there, driving, driving, driving...) It was raining cats and dogs, but as soon as we arrived in Calgery we had some beautiful sunshine. This little town out in the nowhere is kind of charming. We visited the Olympia Site and went to the Saddledom station and tried out the local bars of course. But honestely, after 3 days we had enough and moved on to the Nature. Like all the Tourist we went to Banff, through the National Park until Jaspar. On the way we saw some awesome lakes like Morain Lake, Lake Louise, Mirror Lake, Emerald Lake in the Yoho N.P. We also did ... read more

Welcome to our new travel blog....we've been waiting to set this up for a few weeks and thought, hey, we're doing a little traveling BEFORE we go on our world trip, so why not share the domestic adventures first? It'll give everyone a little heads up on where we come from. We're currently living at Sarah's parents' place in Vancouver, having given up our basement suite, and packed and stored all our stuff for 15 months or so. We're hoping to sell the little Mazda in the next few days or so before we head to Windsor, but if not we should have some time when we're back from Ontario. Almost daily side trips to MEC and other outdoor stores are keeping us busy and geared up. There you go, a little teaser. Next entry in ... read more

Giving the new journal its first entry is tough. I'm not travelling right now and I don't have too much to say. But everyone has to start somewhere and I'm planning to travel down to Washington next week, England and Ireland in August and maybe South America later in the year.... read more
