Up early again and off to the Ferry. We were somewhat concerned that the hour and a half long Ferry ride might be a problem for me who can't even ride in the back of a car without going green around the gills, but I insisted that I'd be fine as long as I was outside. Mr Weston wasn't allowed on deck so he had to spend his time in the tiny, very smelly, very hairy animal room, which I'm pretty sure is what would have been used as the Brig back in the day. Horrible little metal room. Martin and I went on deck to enjoy the scenery. It was a little cold out on the deck especially in the front where there was nothing to shelter you from the wind and elements. The sun ... read more

Victoria - 20th June Seems a long time since I had access to the internet so I am writing this in our last hitel before embarking on the cruise on sunday. 14 June - Jasper Had a free day to wander Jasper - which we did. A lot of the group did the floating raft down the Athabasca river. We walked into Jasper which has a small population about 4400, the walk took us around the lake where the hotel is located. Jasper is about 5k to the centre - stocked up with lunch saw the VIA train which goes to the coast and wandered back to see the rafters shhot the bridge and get some pics. Had lunch on the bridge, watching the elk and calves. On the way to Jasper saw a bull elk ... read more

The last week in Costa Rica….. Took the bus to the ferry and the bus again to San Jose to meet Candace at the airport. When she arrived, we went straight back to the bus, to the ferry, to the bus, and finally arrived back in Santa Teresa around 9pm. I had already booked and paid for a room attached to a nice house right on the beach. We met the owner and he gave us the key to enter our room, which had a separate door to the outside. I booked the room for us because of its location and because at first glance it looked like something Candace would be impressed with. However, upon moving into our room we discovered huge red ants crawling all over the floor, walls, and in the BED!!! I ... read more

ESTONIA AND GERMANY by plane, train, ferry and bicycle... And only a week until lift-off, yet still so much to do! Sounds like a common lament of travellers, doesn't it? My trip to Europe is meant to be a voyage both into the past and the future. Early this year I stumbled across the website of an international theatre festival, "Theater der Welt", to be held in Halle, Germany in June. My discovery provided the impetus to wanting to see what's out there in the world of theatre and other performing arts. It took some meticulous planning, but I've managed to select the dates and buy tickets (through the efficient www.ticketonline.com) for a wide variety of hopefully cutting-edge stage presentations, including an Italian puppet play, African fusion dance, multi-media outdoor shows and even an opera performed ... read more

This day was long..... alarm woke us at 7am and up and off to Vancouver Island via the BC ferry. Straight to Butchart Gardens. We were blown away. This surely, is one of the best man made wonders of the world. from an old limestone quarry was born maybe 15 acres of planted gardens, landscapes, designs you name it. We arrived ion spring so had tulips every which way, long and short interspersed with smaller flowers; myriads of colours, pastels and shades, all done beautifully. Even the apple trees were majestic. Most flowering trees were trimmed below leaving only the top cover for a semi circle of flowers. There was a sunken garden we did not want to walk out of, a Japanese garden, tall redwoods, private gardens, all over gently rolling land. We never ... read more

32 Days and Counting (May 10, 2008) They say that anticipation is half the fun. Combine that with preparation and I’m not sure if that decreases the percentage or not. Either way, I’ve got roughly a month to prepare for what some would call, in the face of today’s soaring gas prices, an insane journey. My somewhat laid back, I hope, four footed feline Mouchie and I will be leaving our little island home and heading east to explore my newly adopted country, Canada. We will be travelling in Ezzie, my bigger than a van but not as big as a bus RV that I bought a month ago. The plan is to go all the way to Halifax visiting family and friends along the way and record the journey, both here and in pictures and ... read more
