Because of our inability to get accomodation at Tofino we decided to make a day trip from Ucluelet to Vancouver Island's famous Long Beach. It is a huge long sandy beach with a few rocky outcrops. It reminded me of Riversdale beach in NZ where our family used to spend holidays. After sunning ourselves for a while, we decided to brave the cold waters. It was brisk to start with but eventually we acclimatised. We certainly got a few strange looks from the surfboarders in their full-body wetsuits. Once back on dry land we spent hours watching the eagles soaring from their lofty waterfront perches. Once bored of that I turned artistic and made an assortment of crabshell ensambles. Let me know if you want to purchase any, prices start at $500,000. Before catching the bus ... read more

We had wanted to stay in Tofino but it was either booked out or expensive so we decided on Ucluelet instead. We caught a bus from Parksville, on the way seeing another couple of bears. If anyone has seen the movie scary movie 2 then the guy running the hostel looked exactly like the character in a wheelchair. He was freakish. Anyways we checked in and went out to check out the place. It is a small seaside town that has a rustic charm. I don't know why I remember this but we saw a bush with the largest leaves I have ever seen. So look out for that if you visit, exciting stuff. On our first night we heard a little of a local concert, before deciding that little bit was enough. Our second day ... read more

Whale watching North America » Canada » British Columbia » Ucluelet By Sazzle DazzleMay 17th 2007Somehow I managed to do all of this for free!!! I love working for Ron - so many benefits and so much fun! 2 hours of whale watching should have cost us $60 each - instead we paid nothing! Woohoo! It was an absolutely wicked day - Kirsty and I had the most amount of fun reliving our youth and being idiots for a couple of hours. Thank you for such a fantastic day babe - you've become such a good friend! I hope our paths meet again!... read more

Happy campers North America » Canada » British Columbia » Ucluelet By Sazzle DazzleMay 12th 2007I was so priviledged to be invited on this sunny afternoon to Kennedy Lake. With a fucked clutch and tension in the air we actually made it out here - I'm sure it helped that all my fingers and toes were crossed the entire way! We stopped to fill the truck with twigs and wood for the fire and the damn thing wouldn't move! So in true 'Little Miss Sunshine' memory Daysi and I hopped out the van and pushed it til Ron could get it going! We totally rock! The camping was a lot of fun and I had an aweso... read more

Chill day North America » Canada » British Columbia » Ucluelet By Sazzle DazzleMay 12th 2007Another blissful day of sunshine in Ucluelet. After work we headed down to Kennedy Lake to chill with the dogs for the afternoon and catch the sunset with a few beers. Kirsty's dog Jeta is just like the little squirel from Ice Age...such a sweet little munchkin! Nathan's hounds Lupa, Otti and Daisy are all complete nutters! Another wicked day - I love my life!... read more

Its a pretty dumb idea to walk 3km in the rainforest to see the sunset as you then have to walk 3km back through the rainforest but in the dark!!!! Tourists hey?! The sunset was worth it though!!! We had a good time that night too - everyday is a great day at Ucluelet!... read more

. When working on the travel blog for yesterday we were surprised to find that we finished the day slightly further south than when we started - it was a pity that it took us so long to make so little progress!!.. So, did we sleep in? Yes, we looked out the window at about 7 am - it was gray, so we turned over and went back to sleep… Only to find… Statistics Starting Destination: Ucluelet, British Columbia, Canada Ending Destination: Ucluelet, British Columbia, Canada Ending Destination GPS: N: 48° 56.081’ W: 125° 32.355’ Elev: 61’ Miles Driven: 66.3 Distance Walked: 4.2 km (2.6 miles) Stairs Climbed: 907 Quote for the Day: “We don’t inherit the earth from our parents, we borrow it from our children” Slipping and Sliding in the Pacific Rim National Park ... read more

. So we decided to “wing it!” Ok, it was decided for us… To minimize the level of risk we decided to get up early - our target the 8:00am sailing… Oh, I forgot - in our investigations last night we found we had missed one crucial fact - this weekend is Canadian Thanksgiving… Hence, the crowds on the roads and on the seas… So how would this affect us?
