Hey everyone, well we made it! After over 28 hours of flying we're finally in the UK. The flight from Auckland to Dubai was a pretty huge trip, and by the time we flopped down in bed in some hotel room in the middle east we were shattered. We arrived in Dubai airport at 5:30am on the 15th March, in no time we were in our room, looking out to this strange city, with the we're not in Kansas anymore feeling. I had probably the best shower and breakfast I've ever had, due to the relief of finally making it, after that we crashed then that arvo hopped in a taxi to Burjuman mall, and checked out the flash shops. Next day we did a city tour in the morning, this was a great idea as ... read more

My mum had been going on at me for ages to visit the UAE with her, well, last December I did and I was not disappointed. Those Arabs really have got it right, the sun was shinning every day, the food was top quality, it was so safe and their vision and innovasion is really out of this world. We stayed with local friends in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain, and we visited Dubai for a few days. Check out these pics: ... read more

So my work needed an architectural model bought over to Abu Dhabi, and the cheapest way I found was for someone to fly over there! I joked with my boss and said that I would go and he said yes straight away, so that was that!!! So the flight, hotel and expenses were sorted!!! So I get to Heathrow Airport really early and I go to check in and of course they are asking about the model and who packed it and I'm so worried because it had been packed already and to unpack it and pack it again would be a nightmare. Luckily for me, they let me take it on the plane, but then when I got on the plane, I had problems finding space to put the model because it was quite big! ... read more

Its sooo Hot here in Dubai so the first day after breakfast I decided to check out the hotel roof top pool where ther were a few blokes running around and jumping in and out of the pool in their pants - wasn't quite sure where to look so just read my travel guides and waited until they had gone before I decided to test the water for myself. I debated for along time if it was appropriate for me to strip down to my swimming costume in public in an Arab country, in the end I figured it would be ok to dip my feet into the sun-heated warm water.  But it wasn't too long before the unbearable heat became erm.... unbearable and I went inside where I slept until late afternoon.  What I liked ... read more

Glasgow -----  Dubai First of all I must thank my Dad and arguably 'helpful' little brother for getting me to the airport on time, where I successfully checked in for my Emirates flight to Dubai.  Unfortunately there were no window seats left but hey @ least that means I don't have to ask permission before I can go for a wander or visit the toilet - a priviledge I am sure children in my class would enjoy!! When boarding I showed a rather gorgeous air steward my boarding card. (yes, I really do seem to have a thing for the gay ones)  He made sure I turned right and pointed out that I had an aisle seat on the right hand side of the plane.  As I side stepped other passengers and bashed them with my rucksack & duty-free bags I ... read more

To Cairo (2003): I traveled to Egypt in September 2003 after the SARS was just over. We arrived in Dubai at midnight after a 6-hour flight from Bangkok on Emirate Airlines. We had to transit in this city for a day on the way to Cairo. My trip was a long time ago, so my photos may look old now. It was also the first time I visited an Arabian country. Despite a short transit, we still had enough time to visit some places in Dubai. We were amazed by the development of this city, which used to be a desert 30 years ago. The Burj Al Arab Hotel was the highlight on our visit. We then went to Jumeirah Mosque and Bastakia Citadel. When other people on the tour were busy shopping at the market, ... read more

Landed in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. 2002 when the time that Dubai was beginning to boom i would say. Sheikh zayed road (The main high way in Dubai) was with just a Stand alone building that was the world trade center and a couple of others with just sand on both sides of the road. While the days passed by traveling every single day on that road for a good 7 years, could see the developments coming up. well it was not obvious when you pass by the same road twice a day and you don't realize that many projects coming up, but when you pass by these amazing buildings you start thinking was this there before?!? this includes the Burj Khalifa (The worlds tallest) or they call it ''At The TOP''... read more

We left Melbourne at about 7pm, and then had a quick stopover in Singapore for a few hours. Then we were off to Dubai for a day. We arrived at about 5am, and got through the airport pretty easily. We went to the hotel to sleep for a few hours, and then decided to do a day tour of the city. We visted the Jumeria Beach Hotel, The Burj Al Arab, and The Jumeria Mosque. After the tour, we headed back to the airport, and got our flight to Egypt.... read more

My last two days in Dubai were spent on friendly conversation, good meals, and walks on the local streets. On Monday, to my surprise, we went to watch John play hockey. Dubai had an indoor winter arena with rinks and a facility with a short ski hill! Perhaps this could be considered the the hot-climate equivalent of heated swimming pools in cold climates. On Tuesday we visited the Bastakiya , the old town where historically merchants lived. The fine towers and houses were being carefully restored as an outdoor museum, encouraging visitors to use their imaginations. Not far away, we went to the Dubai Museum , which I had visited earlier by mistake. The walls and turrets from the original fort spoke to the security historically necessary to ... read more
