Left at a decent enough time for another coastal journey, some of it along the coast which has become the Turkish riviera with hotel after hotel after hotel, some of which were as big as Wembley Stadium & quite gross. A few had big statues out front as an indication of oppulence? But the one to take the top prize had 2 Greek females & gold plated or at least painted gold & were a good 40' tall. Once through the grot the road was as twisty as the others but climbed to 1500 m above sea level , hugging the coast & again just beautiful. We stopped for lunch at a more organised cafe next to one of the many fuel stations that are in Turkey & this time we had pide (a form of ... read more

Up early to the sound of more watering... Off again on the short trip to the ferry port. Another amazing road way above the sea. They're building lots of tunnels which must mean they are to build another new road which will open this coast up no end. Shame for all the little shops & cafes on the old road – goodness knows what they'll do... Arrive in Tasucu & there is no shade to be found, so parked up, wound the awning out a little & had a quick lunch. Some young lad of about 9 came over & spoke to us in Turkish, peered into the van etc. Our first thought was that he was trying to con us into a false parking charge. I asked a passer by what the boy wanted – ... read more

t was hot yesterday – 33 most of the afternoon & in the evening the breeze dropped so it was a hot night despite have all the roof lights open. Worth it though for the first view out of the door when we got up.... The showers were hot too which is more than we were expecting. We went & sat on the beach & read then had a swim in the sea, our first this year. It was a bit cold; I must have been very emotional as I had two lumps in throat...We were watching the little fish in the shallows when a sea bass or a mackerel shot by & gobbled a few up. We had a wander around an ancient monument in the afternoon which is right net door to the site ... read more

Woke to a beautiful day. Went off to the showers at 7.30 in case there was a rush which there wasn't, expecting a cold shower as the sun hadn't been up long. It was uber hot. Our bodyguard slipped away in the night to do some mine sweeping I assume but a couple of gullets motored across the bay. Could have stayed here for a while.... Got away for 9.30 as we knew that not only was it a fair way away but also it was the coastal road - & what a road. Once again it hugged the coastline close to the sea & passed some lovely coves, little beaches & also a harbour that had nothing around it; it was just a mooring site I suppose. Back through the snow covered mountains, out, back ... read more

was musing again last night as I do & wondering how many words I have written in this blog, it must be pushing 10,000– it feels like a dissertation but more fun. It's quite a commitment but I think I shall miss it when I stop in an odd way...there's another 40 odd... I found the disposal point for the chemical toilet...in the area that in the process of being developed..sat on it's own. They don't have a clue... Off we go after a lengthy goodbye to Yasin who was, by this time, overly friendly if you see what I mean. The old road for 16km through forests next to the river & the bridge whose base had washed away in the storms & a government chappie with a theodolite was doing his thing. Then onto ... read more

The meal last night was lovely & we sat by the river. We both had trout, not caught in the river as it's too full of silt, but from a trout farm around the valley somewhere. Fresh not frozen. Trout, mixed salad & fresh chips - £4. A bottle of wine – I didn't ask... In most places in Greece & Turkey, you are sometimes woken by barking dogs, but not here. It wasn't a dawn chorus – more of an eclectic mix of : peacocks, guinea fowl, partridge, cockerels, hens, ducks, cows & donkeys, all but the last two wandering around the site. We were going to move on to Kas (Kaaash) today but Cathy has an upset stomach so we stayed put. I got up, had my shower & decided to have my breakfast ... read more

We decided to stay here two nights as we have time to kill, who knows what the next site is like anyway, the roads are tiring for different reasons & we have wifi! Did I mention the storms yesterday? Huge, massive – lightning that you never see in the UK & thunder like bomb blasts that shake Billy. The roads were like rivers full of silt from the mountains.. Today it was forecast to rain in the morning & afternoon but neither happened. After brekkers a walk into town, 3 streets just all for tourists, mainly Brits, Dutch & German. It is fairly quiet now, though goodness knows what it's like in the summer. We watched the paragliders coming down off the mountains & landing on the beach or 'prom' – the sky seemed full of ... read more

One moment – an apology. I was looking at previous posts & have realised that I said that Peter from Holland was a prison warden; my mistake, in fact he was a prison GOVERNOR – Peter, I am very sorry; (everything else was correct – great cook, great artist & lover so Janette tells me; now we'll see if they're reading this!) A bit like when I asked the Marketing Director which territory he covered back in '77... Righto, off we go, but first to the shop for supplies to Kipa, part of Tesco (or as their FD was, 'stitched up like a Kipa') Met a German couple in a converted Merc van – raised, converted to 4x4 with a large living 'box' & painted in an earth & sky camo design. I told him that ... read more

We knew this was going to be a long day but...I wasn't expecting it to be 6 hours driving! We started off with a stop at an onyx shop we'd seen on the outskirts of town the night before. They had some smashing stuff & loads of it. One of the family came up & introduced himself in fine English, Ahmet – he'd lived in East London for 5 years. He thought his boat had come in because Cathy bought 4 pieces, one piece alone was 60 Euros, about £42....bargain. Then Ahmet gave us his card, his number, his email address, his Whatsapp name & said any problems, ring me. How nice – he has a friend also in the Turkish Embassy in London – he must have been well impressed with Cathy's spending. I think ... read more

Hands up all those who said Ebay! Wrong, it's Bayen. Only Ken will have got that one right I'm sure. Having driven past Lesbos (oh stop it), we can now see Kos & another day, will pass Symi & Rhodes. Is anyone following us on a map I wonder? Decided to leave today as a place in a car park is not our scene despite the beautiful surroundings; it could have been idyllic.... but again the showers were cold, just ones to use post sea swim minus any heads & really, REALLY cold water water off the mountain. We used the shower in Billy so now down to reserve in the tank. Something disturbing – at about 0830 I went to clean my teeth & saw a young boy in a dog cage, up the way ... read more
