Left at a decent enough time for another coastal journey, some of it along the coast which has become the Turkish riviera with hotel after hotel after hotel, some of which were as big as Wembley Stadium & quite gross. A few had big statues out front as an indication of oppulence? But the one to take the top prize had 2 Greek females & gold plated or at least painted gold & were a good 40' tall. Once through the grot the road was as twisty as the others but climbed to 1500 m above sea level , hugging the coast & again just beautiful. We stopped for lunch at a more organised cafe next to one of the many fuel stations that are in Turkey & this time we had pide (a form of pizza, Turkish style & very scrummy just like in Cyprus) So 2 pide, a big bowl of mixed salad with dressing, a coke & a fizzy water & 3 bottles of still water for 20ytl, or £5. No offers for Cathy this time...
The roadside stalls went from selling tomatoes to corn to bananas. Very odd as we had seen lots of young banana
trees being grown on terraces but no ripe bananas. When we came down off the mountain & it then made sense – it was greenhouse city again with some tall structure which were full of...bananas.
So here to Anamur – we missed the sign to the campsite but went to the one next door which we didn't know about which was deserted. Walked to other site which was full so stayed put thinking someone would turn up...hopefully they would as there was no electricity to neither site. This site is quite nice, right on the beach but a little rustic despite it's name – Camping Paradies. The outside beach showers haven't hot water & the cabin showers look like they haven't been used for years. A German couple arrived just as someone did come – an old gentleman that spoke German as he had lived & worked in Manheim for 33 years as an architect. No electrickery though – the whole area was off...Fridge back on gas which is nearly gone then got a text saying the ferry has been cancelled & will go 24 hours later; deep joy! Hey ho, if the gas runs out, it runs out
– feast time!
Anyway, I can think of worse places to be holed up in...24 hours in Paradies!
Had another 2 missed calls which went onto voice mail. I have so many calls in my phone history I couldn't work out who they were from. Thinking they might be from the ferry company again I rang voicemail – 2 PPI calls major grrr! That'll be about £5 for the privilege...
Anyway good news – the electrickery came back on so fridge back on full pelt – & it stayed on all night which was a result.
Had bbq on the site set up – this time Cathy dropped a lamb chop in the coals – at least my kidneys are having a good detox with all the carbon I'm eating on this trip.
Remembered these documents have a word count facility – 14,000!
