October 17 – 26, 2022 Now that our land travel was over for now in Turkey, we knew we had to buckle down and get ready to head back to the US for the winter and leave Tsamaya safely in the marina. With our flights booked for Oct 26th and returning to the marina late on the 16th, we had to start moving to get things sorted and determine what goes and what stays, clean out the refrigerator and freezer, and meet with the person that will be watching the boat while we are gone. Other things on our “to do list” were putting biocide in the diesel tank, doing an oil change, fill up the diesel tank, tie down the genoa and staysail and put sheets below (ropes for those that don’t know that term), ... read more

October 13 – 16, 2022 The next stop on our few days away from Marmaris where Tsamaya is quietly waiting for our return was the city of Izmir. In actual fact, it was definitely not high at all on our list of places to visit in Turkey. It really wasn’t on the list at all, but we wound up adding it to our itinerary due to the bus schedules! Yes, we first thought we’d just go to Pamakkale and Bodrum before returning to Marmaris, but in trying to get from Bodrum to Marmaris, it wasn’t such an easy task by bus. It seemed crazy that it was easy to get to Bodrum, but the return was going to be quite long and almost meant we’d have to stop someplace to make decent connections. It appeared that ... read more

Our next stop on our itinerary was the coastal town of Bodrum. Yes, this is a place we could get to by water, but when we looked at places nearby to visit for a few days from Marmaris, we decided we’d tour this area now due to ease of getting there. As always, the 4 ½ hour bus trip provided us another lovely view of the landscape in this area of the country. We definitely wish that our bus travel in the US would be as comfortable as it is here with its less crowded seating and even a service of beverages and a snack on the way. The price for bus travel here makes it a very reasonable way to get around and you can easily book the tickets on line. We wound up finding ... read more

As mentioned in the last blog we decided to take a few days to do some land travel in Turkey. The night before we were scheduled to leave Bob decided to pour some water in the bilge to clean it out. This should have been just a quick thing to do, but the bilge alarm went off and stayed on! Yikes, something else. Bob was now having to figure out the problem and in the end he decided to put in a whole new unit. Always good to have spares onboard for situations like this as it was 7:30pm so no shops would be open and we have to leave at 8:30 AM the next morning to catch the bus. We actually have 2 brand new units as spares, 1 exactly the same and the other ... read more

Adamcağız bizi alıp kuş gibi Palamut a getirdi… Bir seyahat te böyle geçti.. Biraderim Turhan'a teşekkürediyorum . Bizi çok doğru bir yere yönlendirmiş Sağolsun… Artık önümüze bakıyoruz… ... read more

We made it back to Marmaris after a “little” delay on our Easy Jet flight from Gatwick airport. It was scheduled to leave at 3:30PM but we had gotten a message on our phone that it was postponed for 1 ½ hours. That wasn’t too bad and they notified us about 1:30 pm so we decided to take time to have a combination lunch/dinner at the airport. They actually don’t provide you with the actual gate that you need to go to until close to the time of departure. We were told by one of the staff that we should probably start to go through security about an hour before our flight as they would then have the gate assigned. That would mean we wouldn’t have to go until about 4PM based on this information. We ... read more

The end of three relaxing and summery days in Dalyan. Well, they were relaxing for all but one of us - I’m so amused by Beeb’s interpretation of her forced bathroom incarceration that I can’t let it pass. She got stuck in a bathroom at a restaurant…it was very traumatic, pliers were involved in the rescue, there were tears etc etc, but every time she brings it up (which is a LOT, even more than the vomiting on the plane), she refers to it as the bathroom pubicle and I fall about the place laughing. Mother of the year. Other than the pubicle incident, our time here has been amazing. A river full of turtles, a balcony roof with two swallows’ nests full of baby birds just coming out of their nests and sun, sun and ... read more

Google maps has been invaluable at helping us find our way between destinations and also providing some ‘enrichment’ in the routes chosen. Today's adventure started off well with another delicious breakfast in the courtyard, but things went somewhat downhill from there. First descent was when child #1 noticed in an absolute panic that she had left her favourite toy in the bed at the hotel, precisely 3 seconds after we had entered the freeway system. Tried to navigate our way out of it, only to head 20 mins in the exact wrong direction with no exit in sight. Finally made it back to the hotel to collect the attempted escapee. Exactly one hour behind schedule and we headed to Pamukkale for some restorative soaking. It was a long trip, mostly on freeway (where we experienced an ... read more
