23 Feb 2020 Sirince We decided to catch the town bus to the little town of Sirince today. Its a little piece of heaven about 8 kms away. Being a Sunday, this small Greek village, surrounded by thousands of Olive trees, is expected to be a little busy with weekend visitors. I'm not sure if it is always bazarre like, but it is today, and we're browsing through the produce on offer, including the wine tastings, which are at almost every 5th shop. Now I've heard a little bit about the differnet types of milk that are ingested in this part of the world, and of their medicinal qualities, but I'm a little surprised that horse and donkey milk are a thing! 17.02.20 Ayvalik- Izmir So its so long Ayvalik! We had another weird dining experience last night at Mira Steak house. Another one of those "Oh, come and have a look at the cabinet....it will be like a live menu!", nights. T-bone steak for Shane and a turkish kebab for moi. He also brings us a "spoonful of everything" from the Mezze cabinet and a little something extra "on the house". Apparently it is raw meat with spices and red rice all minced together. And it's delicious! There is so much food we are clearly not going to be able to eat our main meals! Ich muss zu meinem Zimmer in Izmir noch hinzufügen: auf dieser Reise ist es das kleinste, dafür ist das Internet relativ gut. Es ist mehr ein Touristenhotel, was sich auch beim Frühstück und den Gästen dazu bemerkbar macht. Nach der Morgenmahlzeit wurde ich für die Tour nach Ephesus abgeholt. Es gab eine Mitreisende, einen Führer und eine Fahrerin. Wir sind also etwa 50 Kilometer nach Süden gefahren und nach dem Besuch eines ersten Geschäfts waren wir beim Marienhaus. Dieses wurde allerdings weitgehend nachgebaut. Von dort sind wir zur Ruinenanlage von Ephesus. Das Wetter war sehr schön und der Führer erzählte viel. Von dort sind wir zu einem Teppichladen, wo wir auch zu Mittag gegessen haben, danach zu den Resten des Artemistempels (dieser war eines der 7 Weltwunder) und zuletzt besuchten wir noch ein Ledergeschäft. Heute habe ich wieder ausgiebig gefrühstückt und bin dann mit dem Taxi nach Pamukkale zu den Kalksteinterassen und der Ruinenanlage Hierapolis gefahren. Beides war sehr sehenswert. Ich hätte eigentlich gerne an einer Tour teilgenommen oder einen Gemeinschafts-Minibus benutzt. Aber das Hotel meinte, dazu müsste ich wieder zum Busbahnhof und dann hätte ich dafür auch wieder ein Taxi gebraucht. Daher hier einmal eine teurere Lösung, aber für die etwa 20 Kilometer einfach waren die insgesamt 30 Euro noch im Rahmen. Wenn ich aber von Izmir nach Ephesus will, sind es dann vielleicht 50 Kilometer und ich hoffe, ich finde dafür eine Halbtagestour. Da war das Hotel in Istanbul etwas geschäftstüchtiger, denn die wollten mir eine Bosporusfahrt vermitteln. Now that we made it to our destination for this season we decided to stay a few weeks to get familiar with the area as we get Tsamaya ready to leave for the winter season. After checking with the marina office one of the first things we needed to do was to find a place to buy a step ladder. This is not something that is usually on our list of things to get, but here we are finding that the dock is definitely a little farther down from our bow than other places we have been. We typically have a heavy plastic bucket (an old cat litter container which always makes us think about Sailor) that we fill with water, put the top on and use that as a step.
