Hemen çıkış... read more

The old Turk reeled in a flailing, silver-gray fish from the clear-blue Aegean water. Three cats waited behind him patiently. The rising sun tracing feline heads in wispy golden-hued halos. Unfortunately for kitty this fisherman had other plans. He stowed his fresh-caught lunch in a Styrofoam cooler strapped to his bike. No worries. There were dozens of women fanning out along the sea-side promenade, filling water bowls and distributing food amongst Izmir's furry denizens. We pulled out of Canakkale on an early morning. The night before we had shared a last meal with Hatice and Neuraz on the waterfront. We will miss them greatly. They showed us every kindness they could, assuring that our time in Turkey was as pleasant as possible. It worked, as Canakkale is now permanently etched into our 'Gotta Go Back There' ... read more

Today we visited Turkey for a city tour of Instanbul. Turkey sits on the border of Europe and Asia and Instanbul is actually half in Europe and half in Asia. The city is ancient and crowded. Our first stop was the palace at Topkapi. Here for centuries the rulers of Turkey, the Sultans, lived with there 500 wives (busy guy) and ruled the better part of the known world. The Palace became a museum in 1954 when the last Sultan was deposed during the white revolution, so called because no one died. Since then the Palace, and all its treasures, have been open to the public. Here we saw the ornate daily items used by the Sultan, gold and diamond coffee cups, solid gold plates and even a solid gold cradle,we tried to get one for ... read more

Today we tour the ancient city of Ephesus in the 100 degree heat. We landed on the island 7 AM but first another sumptious breakfast. We loaded our camelbac backpacks with as much cold water as they would hold. Everyone is amazed how well we can travel since we always have water with us. All our fellow travelers are constantly draining water at 50 cents to 1 euro per bottle, while we travel a full day and still have ice water from the ship in our pack. Makes travel in this heat much easier. We boarded our bus for the half hour drive to the ancient site. Our tour guide for the day was Can, pronounced John, a twenty year veteran as a tour guide. He wanted to be an archeologist, so he went to the ... read more

So I'm new to this travel blog malarkey, but having a massive passion for all things travel and new I thought I'd give it a shot. I am not sure why I never had any desire to ever visit Turkey, maybe it was tarnished with a cheap image that attracted the wrong crowds and was a popular haunt with those looking for the cheapest of the cheap with tacky bars and low key hotels. But not one to judge a book by it's cover come January I found myself booking a week all inclusive to a hotel In Ovacik. Having moved jobs within travel in the last year and seeing a lot of our customers after various areas and accommodations and hearing a lot about the surrounding areas and attractions, I bit the bullet and gave ... read more

One of my first holidays in Turkey was in the Aegean area of Turgutreis. At the time I was far to young to appreciate the beautiful scenery and cultural of the area but this didn't stop me from having a fantastic time! The hotel, at the time, was a beautiful small perfect family run hotel with a nice sized pool, restaurant and perfect location directly on the beach. The hotel owned their own section of the beach so we were able to eat dinner on the sand and breakfast with an exquisite view of the nearby island and sounds of the ocean waves peacefully rolling in to the beach. I visited the area with my Grandma, Mum and Sister and during the holiday found friendship with a lovely English family from Hastings. We would spend timeless ... read more
