'English Cat'
The hotel was home to many stray kittens and cats which would wonder around the hotel, they were no problem at all. 'English Cat' quickly became the nickname of my younger sister as she bonded so well with the cats :') One of my first holidays in Turkey was in the Aegean area of Turgutreis. At the time I was far to young to appreciate the beautiful scenery and cultural of the area but this didn't stop me from having a fantastic time! The hotel, at the time, was a beautiful small perfect family run hotel with a nice sized pool, restaurant and perfect location directly on the beach. The hotel owned their own section of the beach so we were able to eat dinner on the sand and breakfast with an exquisite view of the nearby island and sounds of the ocean waves peacefully rolling in to the beach. I visited the area with my Grandma, Mum and Sister and during the holiday found friendship with a lovely English family from Hastings. We would spend timeless hours playing in the pool and on the beach throughout the day and visiting the local restaurants and markets in the evenings. I remember one particular hotel not far down the beach from ours which had a huge swimming pool, huge buildings and fantastic stage with all kinds of entertainment. It was here in Turgutreis that I first encountered 'belly dancing' and 'traditional Turkish dancing'.
Boat Trips
As a family we have hugely developed a love for boat trips - this photo shows my Grandma enjoying a swim with other holidaymakers off of the boat Since then I have developed a great love for the two kinds of dancing and viewing it simply makes me feel at home in Turkey. We also made friends with a lovely English lady who had experienced what many hope to on their travels, the typical 'everlasting holiday romance'. Having visited Turgutreis many times she fell in love with a local and made the brave decision to move their completely. With such understanding of the English she was able to give us fantastic advice on the local area. As such a young child I don't personally remember too much about her however one thing, for some reason, has always stuck in brain - this being the reasoning behind Turkeys high curbs. She taught me all about the climate and how Turkey can experience a period of non-stop rain lasting around 6 weeks inevitably leading to flooding and the need for higher pavements.
I would highly recommend a trip to Turgutreis as the area is perfect for families, couples, the elderly and even the younger generation too. Turgutreis meets the needs of families as it provides a variety of family friendly hotels, beautiful beaches with a shallow descent, family activities
Face full of paint
As a child the greatest thing to have done on holiday was to have your hair braided and face painted - in which I of course had both! :) such as watersports and kids clubs and many restaurants for those who wish to eat out. The needs of couples are met through Turgutreis's beautiful scenery and sandy beaches - perfect for a romantic stroll and a beautiful backdrop for dinner and photographs. A couple can choose between a romantic dinner watching traditional turkish dancing, a dinner on the beach with the Aegean sea as backdrop or an all day or evening boat trip to relax out at sea and visit the local islands. The elderly will enjoy this area due to the flat land and beautiful scenery, transportation is easily found for just 1-3 lira and for the younger generation the main town is lined with plenty of bars and clubs.
