Turkey is my favourite destination from which I have already travelled. Almost every year of my life I have spent two weeks of the summer holidays in Turkey. At the age of 18 I have visited Turgutreis, Side, Antalya, Icmeler, Bitez (twice) and Gumbet - the majority of my most loved childhood memories come from these holidays.

The capital of Turkey is Istanbul, which happens to be the only place in the world located within two continents - Europe and Asia. Turkey is bordered by eight countries being Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Nakchivan, Iraq and Syria. Turkey's South coast leads into the Mediterranean sea whilst the Aegean sea is to the West coast and Black Sea along the North coast.

The countries official language is Turkish - spoken by about 85%!o(MISSING)f the population. The main tourist areas of Turkey speak English generally in order to cater to tourists however in deeper less populated areas of Turkey many do not speak English due to the lack of education infrastructure and simply the fact that there is no need for the English language. I am embarrassed to admit that throughout all my trips to Turkey I have only picked up a few words of the Turkish language:

Hello - Merhaba

Thank You - Tesekkur ederim

Please - Lutfen

I love you - Seni Seviyorum

Goodbye - Gule Gule

The majority of the Turkish are of the Muslim religion making it all the more interesting as a country culturally. I have learnt much about religion through my visits to Turkey and have particularly taken note of the difference in authority between men and women. ( I will discuss my experiences, views and opinions of Turkish religion in detail in another post)
