Left Aqaba today after a good nights sleep in a nice Hotel for a change. Clean , clean, clean!! Driving along Jordan is so huge adn the statistics are amazing. Apparently 50% of the population is under 18.. Very Modern and from Aqaba, you can see Israel. Amazing how close. Aqaba is a very nice place. http://www.aqaba.jo/english/index.php Went to Wadi Rum which is in the outskirts and occupied by the bedouins. Amazing rock formations and sand colours! http://www.pbase.com/mansour_mouasher/rum&page=all check out this site to see what I mean. Not my pictures but I have similar. Had tea in a bedouin tent and it was so cool from the sun, and so relaxing. Would loved to have stayed out in the night there.. Then had a feast for lunch. Food is so fabulous.. and healthy! Arrived in Aqaba the biggest sea port you have ever seen. It has existed in this form as a port for 6000 years. This apparently is the lung of this country. Getting off the ferry was the most organised, incredibly efficient system that should be in place in Egypt.. but then don't hold your breath!! Met by the Geckos group who channelled our entry so smoothly it was like just home. Arrived at our hotel which feels like 5 star! compared to what we had previously. It can only get better than this I am sure. Went had had a fish dinner which was great last night. Then to bed. Oh I forgot to tell you.. getting off the bus to get the ferry I rolled my ankle!! so sore, could not walk on it for ... read more

Well it's been an interesting couple of days, to say the least. I took the overnight bus from Cairo to Dahab with an English girl named Sam. Dahab is a seaside town in the Sinai Penninsula, which I think is officially part of Asia. Just as I started to get accustomed to the lack of legroom on the bus, they started blaring some Arabic movie. So I didn't sleep at all. We got into Dahab at 5 am and were immediately approached by taxi drivers. We negotiated a fare of 15 Egyptian Pounds to Dahab Dorms, which seemed like a really nice hostel somewhere in town. After getting to the town, the driver started asking us about the place we wanted to go. He then asked us which way to go. Luckily, I noticed in the ... read more

I had read that the ferry trip to Egypt is a gong show and it was all true. We set out at 8am from the dessert and got to the ferry terminal at 9:30 for what we though was 11or12 ferry. Interesting process to get stamped out of Jordan and ticketed for the ferry but not too bad, helped some other tourists with the process while we waited but mostly egyptian migrant workers and some families as passengers, nice waiting area- not (pic later). At noon we were told one more hour, the gangs of egyptians rushed the gate several times we joined the first time but learned fast not to bother again. When the time to go did finally arrive at 2:30 we just walked by the line with our privileged tourist status. Ferry sat ... read more

ggaaaaaaaaa SO SORRRYYY it's taken foreverrrr but just got back with diala from an unbelievable weeeekend in wadi-rum and aqabaaaa!!! Thursday night, we headed out with a bunch of Diala's buddies on a bus 3-4 hours south to Wadi-Rum aka DESERTTTT! There was a huuuuge annual dance/dj show going on called Distant Heat that took place outside in the sand and in the middle of what looked like no where! Goes from 10pm-10am and so you can only imagine what it looks like as the sun rises in the desert as you've been dancing in the dark all night...WOW! **I am weak and unlike non-stop Jordanians, I couldn't make it past 4am hahaha but luckily, Diala woke me up around 5 or 6 and then went back on my dancing feet!!! hahaha truly an outstanding, kinda ... read more

If I ever hated anybody enough I would wish upon them a border crossing via ferry from Aqaba, Jordan to Nuweiba, Egypt. A knee in the nuts and voodoo dolls frenzies just don’t cut it once you’ve seen this. Picking up from where I left off last leaving Wadi Rum, my brother and I get to Aqaba an hour and a half late. Our timetable says there is one daily fast ferry from Aqaba to Nuweiba at 11am and we had heard from a ton of people that this was an extremely painful all day process. Hey man, that’s cool. Life sucks sometimes, roll with the punches, border crossings are never fun. Well... I omit details on the actual purchasing of the tickets which in itself was a whole other headache just because it pales in ... read more

Jordan - Aqaba Aqaba (Arabic: العقبة‎, Al-ʻAqabah) is a coastal town in the far south of Jordan. The town is best known today as a scuba diving/ snorkeling and beach resort. Aqaba has been an inhabited settlement since 4000 BC profiting from its strategic location at the junction of trading routes between Asia, Africa, and Europe. "We have taken Aqaba!" (you wouldn't get it if you've never seen 'Lawrence of Arabia'): During World War I, the occupying Ottoman forces were forced to withdraw from the town after a raid led by T.E. Lawrence and the Arab forces of Sharif Hussein in 1917, making the territory part of the Kingdom of Hejaz, under the rule of Prince Faisal. The capture of Aqaba helped open supply lines from Egypt up to Arab and British forces afield further north ... read more

We woke up early to beat the crowed and visited the ruins a second time. This sunrise visit was well worth it. The light on the rocks and ruins was amazing and it was a completely different experience without the crowds. We got on the road for the Wadi Rum desert. This is a beautiful desert made famous by the Arab Revolt and TE Lawrence in the early 20th century. The movie Lawrence of Arabia was also filmed here. Our plan was to do a little off road driving here. However, our car is packed full of water, gas, tools, camping equipment, clothes, souvenirs and us. We realize very quickly we are too heavy to drive in sand. We took some pictures and moved on. We reach Aqaba, Jordan in the early afternoon. Mo found a ... read more

After five days at sea we entered the Gulf of Aqaba and docked in Jordan’s only seaport, Aqaba. We were here two years ago and visited one of the most amazing places on earth. Petra is the rose colored wonder of the world. To get an idea of what Petra is like, it would be helpful to imagine the Grand Canyon with a whole city carved into its steep walls complete with amphitheater, houses, tombs, public baths and latrines. Then add camels, donkeys, horse carts and Bedouin merchants and you have the picture of what Petra is like. Many moviegoers have actually seen parts of Petra in the Harrison Ford film, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. But probably its more famous visitor was Moses, where he struck a rock and water poured forth. Petra became ... read more
