We finally, finally left Xeraco Campers after 12 nights! The site was just that good: excellent company, great food, a short walk into town and more importantly for me - the sea and a beach that went on forever. I cannot say how good it felt to finally be swimming again and especially in slightly cold water, although it made me miss my M4E friends. It never ceases to amaze me that there is such a common bond between travellers from all over Europe, regardless of language, age or whatever - good conversations were always had. During one of these it did involve me having a slight internal panic attack as I felt my knickers slowly but surely slide off my backside, with my shorts the only thing keeping my modesty in tack. I had visions ... read more

After eating our lunch and venturing into the garden it was time to take the walk up to the Hesketh church . The walk took us down an avenue of extremely large oak and beech trees . Look out for the carving in the trees. That was the message from a couple we met walking the same path. They told us that over the years people had carved their names into the oak tree trunks. Not easy to find but some were quite ancient . We never found the ancient ones but did find Harry loves Sue and many others dated from the 1960's onwards . I don' t think we did find Harry and Sue but it felt like all the young men and girls of the village had sworn their love to each other ... read more

The car with no name also known as Clint was parked up on a half full National Trust car park next to the Leeds to Liverpool Canal. It was midweek. The children are still at school and Clint had just been given a much needed run out of one and a half hours. When we started him up the voice control refused to work and the display told us the battery was getting flat. He needed a long drive to charge him up. Something he had not had for some weeks . Indifference has kept us in. What had discharged the battery was anyones guess. Not using the car. The alarm systems and dash cams running down the battery. We had no clues from the all singing and all dancing display. The drive took us out ... read more

Today was a travel day. We would leave our home in London, as that’s what The Balmoral House Hotel has become, and fly to Dublin to join our Ireland tour group. We were in no hurry as our flight wasn’t until 3:30, however we had to check out at 11:00. I went to breakfast, not only to eat, but to say my goodbyes! I had bacon, toast, and coffee and took some pictures of our friends. Once back at the room we finished packing and headed down to check out! A few years ago I met Israel Mora, an animator who has worked on Cats, The Lion King, The Mandalorian, and Prehistoric Planet. To my surprise he was standing in the office! I got a chance to Talk to him about his new projects…The Lion King ... read more

Today we got up early, were among the first for breakfast, caught a cab, and were at Victoria Station to meet our tour group by 8 am! We were headed to The Cotswold with Evan Evan tours. Our first stop was Burton on the Water. It is a quaint little village on the River Windrich. It is known for its low bridges and stone houses. There are 5 bridges built between 1654 and 1911, each cut from Cotswold stone. They give Birto on the Water the nickname of Venice of the Cotswolds. During the Middle Agest, the Cotswolds became rich from all trade. Much of the money was dedicated to the building of churches, and many large “wool churches“ remain today. Once wool trade ceased the area attracted wealthy landowners and prominent figures to purchase second ... read more

Today we had a reservation for the English Tea bus. This is a bus that has had part of the seats, removed, tables installed, and some innovative ways of keeping your food in place while driving around London. You’re board the bus, are served your tea and ride around London sightseeing and enjoying the city. What fun! The food was delicious and the scenery was great! Whoever outfitted, the bus did an outstanding job. They had a cupholder made out of a strip of wood, which also had a notch for champagne glasses. They had strapped the base of T plate holders onto the wood and the tables so that it wouldn’t move for the bus travel. Then just before we boarded, they put the plates with food on the three tiered plate rack. The food ... read more

We are back at base, we were due to head straight to Scotland, to include the North Coast 500 - as the name suggest a trip around the coast of the Highlands. First though we need to have some work to alter the Air Suspension that we had fitted, unfortunately this was on the south coast. But every cloud has a silver lining, and we used the available time to head to one of my favourite parts of the country, Dorset. We based ourselves at East Fleet Farm a superb site overlooking Chesil beach and the calm of the Fleet that runs alongside it. First day, a bus into Weymouth to explore the lovely beach and harbour. I used to come here as a kid and spent a happy holiday here. The front and harbour have ... read more

Today was going to be an easy day, because there was 100% chance of rain here in London. We have been on a dead run ever since we arrived in United Kingdom, so we were looking forward to a day off. I spent the morning, trying to get everything canceled and trying to get some of our money back from our decision to stay away from Paris. The rest of the day we rested. We packed our suitcases and tried to make plans for the extra time we were going to have in London. if you’ve ever planned a big trip, you know it takes a lot of time, so I was grateful to have the time to work on planning. I made a reservation for us to take a tea bus around London, and to ... read more

Crossing England on Hadrian's Cycleway gave me new-found confidence that I'm not a complete amateur when it comes to bicycle touring; destroying the rear derailleur on my week-old bicycle just a day later had the exact opposite effect! So when the train drivers of England decided to go back to work after their second nation-wide strike in five days - and with my no-longer-shiny but still-new bicycle armed with an ancient-looking, second-hand rear derailleur courtesy of the bicycle shop in Consett - I immediately hopped on a pair of westbound Northern Railways trains to head back to the Irish Sea coast, so that if the weather ever improved from 'awful' to 'mildly disappointing' I would be in the perfect position to strike out on another sea-to-sea cycle route (appropriately named the C2C) with the almost-guaranteed prevailing ... read more

Today was supposed to be a rainy day, so we really didn’t plan a lot of activities. We needed to do laundry, and re-pack our suitcases as we are supposed to leave for Paris tomorrow. So it was up early, breakfast, and then back to the room to separate our clothes for laundry. We are fortunate because the laundromat is two blocks away from the hotel. I headed out to the post office, which is about a block away from the hotel, and mailed home some souvenirs. It was a way to get rid of some of the bulk out of my suitcase plus some of the weight. After I check the weather report, and the rain wasn’t going to start until late afternoon, we decided to join a guided tour For the changing of the ... read more
