19 September 2019, Thursday Kingston on Thames to Putney Bridge London day 18 of Thames Path, day 34 of travel A note about the previous blog. Harlan's brother-in-law and Bob, a friend from Anthem, have given identification to our 'oreo' cows!' They are Banded Galloways bred in Scotland. A 15.9 mile day. Left the White Hart hotel around 0800 with plans to walk to the cafe at Petersham Nursery for breakfast (Google says open at 0900). We crossed over the bridge and at the lower level of the John Lewis building we saw the archeological section of a arched roof structure of a very early 14th century merchant's house. This is the exact spot the barrel-vaulted cellar and ornate chequerboard flint and chalk walls were discovered when working in the old bridge abutments. We elected to ... read more

18 September 2019, Wednesday Day 17 Thames Path, Chertsey to Kingston on Thames, day 32 of travel. After buffet breakfast at The Crown Hotel, we set out. The book indicated a 12 mile day but Garmin showed 12.9 miles. As we approached the Chertsey Bridge Wendy had just emerged from The Bridge Hotel and saw us, so we were blessed with her company for the day. After crossing the bridge we walked along Dumsey Meadow. The plants, animals, birds and fish are detailed on signs. The landscape is now that of Thames watermeadows. Also saw 'oreo cows,' black front and back and white middle. Just past Shepperton Lock we took the small Shepperton to Weybridge ferry across to the opposite tow path much like the old barge tow people would do. But, we were in a ... read more

We had planned visiting Hampton Court on Wednesday, 19 June. Mark took an annual leave from 19 June, and six of us planned visiting Hampton Court Palace. We met up with John & Mary and my parents at Waterloo station in the morning and took the British Rail for Hampton Court from Waterloo. My kind sister-in-law, Rhiannon arranged for six of staff complimentary tickets for us, and it allowed us to go through the entrance for the palace. We walked through the Seymour Gate and strolled through lanes flanked by the medieval buildings. We entered the Henry VIII’s Apartments, looked round the Great Hall, Great Watching Chamber, Council Chamber, and found it interesting in portraits of English monarchs, members of their families and relatives, Henry VIII’s wives and Tudor courtiers. The special exhibition of secret of ... read more

Today saw the coming together of a plan which has been hiding under a pile of engineering text books, beer and Fifa playing for the last 2 years. We finally booked our travels. This is a blog of me and my good friend Buggs travelling experiences from the start of our trip (which I see as today) to the very end when we will be beaten and bloodied by lack of tea, Jaffa cakes and that awful whine you get in your ear when your fed up of somebody talking for 3 months. So about me then, I don’t really go on holiday in fact I only got my passport in 2011 and that saw me take a trip to Ibiza which turns out is about as English as England. Now of course, I am undertaking ... read more

Hampton Court Palace is one of the former royal residences, and has been one of the London’s tourist attractions. The former royal residence possesses lovely grounds and the water garden has been used as a host for the flower show held in July. As such, we decided to visit Hampton Court Palace on 26 July 2009. After buying the tickets, we walked to the picnic area in Wilderness Garden. As it was a very warm day, we chose to sit in the shady spot. After the lunch, we started exploring the palace. I remembered the brick buildings of the Base Court, which include diamond patterns on the façade, mullions windows, ornate Tudor chimneys adorned on the roofs, and Victorian lamps, some of which were original designs of the Tudor period. On the way to Fountain Court, ... read more

Ode to Irene’s Tree In Richmond Park a hawthorn thrives Not far from where we lived our lives Where stands the tree we oft passed by Held hands and laughed no reason why we should have seen the empty space Where now the hawthorn full of grace Grows strong beneath the sky above A symbol of undying love. And so my blog begins... I'm an 18 year old boy on my gap year, and I've been working in various rubbish jobs for months and months to try and save a bit of money. And now I'm finally off!! The plan is to travel with my friends Maurice and Gee around South America, starting in Buenos Aires on 2nd March and flying out of Quito in July. We aim to do all the typical traveller activities but not come across as complete gringos! This blog is aimed at keeping my family and friends in touch with what I'm up to, so I apologise in advance for my not so great writing style! Flying off in 2 days time, so my next entry will come from Buenos Aires I suppose... How exciting!!!! ... read more
