Geo: 52.6281, 1.29935Theresa needed a Camellia moved so out comes the fork and spade and hey presto, planting done.Last night we had a great dinner at the White Horse in Crostwick. A lovely little country pub. Last time we were here was January 2013 when there was a snowman out the front with a beer.... read more

Geo: 52.9428, 1.20852They say mad dogs and Englishman go out in the midday sun and Sheringham certainly confirmed this. Top less pastey white bodies scattered across the pebbled beaches. A sea of OAP's filling up the narrow pavements and generally getting in the way of anyone else actually trying to get anywhere. A quaint little seaside village with all manner of charity shops selling bric-a-brac and other junk no one really wants. Despite this I like the place. Great lunch at the crown overlooking the North Sea sea wall. Prawn baguette for me and roast beef sarnie for Chris. All washed down with a pint of Stella.washing done and ready to pack for Frankfurt tomorrow.... read more

Geo: 52.6281, 1.29935Look up in the sky! Is it a bird? Is it a plane? No it's Sunshine.after torrential rain yesterday and a win by Germany (thank god) the sun has decided to show itself and warm our chilled Aussie bones. Todays plan is shopping as I need trainers due to only bringing my DM's with me. Almost certain we'll return with more than this though. The forecast for the week is looking good with high twenties and low thirties. Nice.I have had a request to review our hotel in Amsterdam. Not sure where to start really.question? Can anyone see the pics uploaded as I can't for some reason.until next blog, take care xx... read more

Geo: 52.6281, 1.29935Ok so we survived the hotel evacuation just as we were expecting our meals. Fortunately it was a false alarm. Up early and back to Schipol airport again before flight to Norwich. Wednesday we'll be back here for flight to Frankfurt. Flight lasted all of 35 minutes and Ken & Theresa were there to meet us. Like ... read more

Well, it has been a couple of days now since dad and I started our journey. We have been staying at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk UK. Her Majesty the Queen invited me in for tea, but she wouldn’t let dad in so I respectfully declined. Dad and I did get to tour the grounds, but the house was not open yet for general tours. We will need to come back sometime in the future. It has been cold here, but the sun is shining. I like walking in the forests, and I see a lot of rabbits. If only dad would let me go after them, but alas I am stuck on the lead. Dad has planned for us to go up to Edinburgh so we can see Rosslyn Chapel. You know dad he has ... read more

Today I phoned Orange to cancel my contract at the end of the current payment period (i.e. April 17th). After that I will be on a pay as you go contract as though it were once again the early 2000s. I bought a brand new, unlocked, totally non-smart phone a couple of weeks ago in preparation for travelling during which I expect the item to undergo various types of duress and didn't want a fancy £200+ portable computer being trashed or nicked in the process. The Nokia 105 doesn't even have a camera, just Snake and Sudoku. When moving from country to country it seemed sensible to have an unlocked phone in order to buy local sim cards so that Erika and I can keep in contact when apart without having to spend an arseload on ... read more

Following the Lovecraft-referenced northern Indian village of Sarnath, there is another otherworldly named region that Erika and I will encounter during our travels: the Darién Gap. It is a 100 mile stretch of marshland on the border between Panama and Columbia, making it an inevitability when moving from North to South America. It is dubbed a "gap" because the Pan-American Highway does not pass through it at all, breaking the otherwise smooth road links between the two continents and thus making land crossing very difficult. From what I can gather the Darién Gap is treacherous not only because of the landscape but also the cartel activity in the region that has resulted in kidnappings and murders. So the safest options to get into South Ameri... read more

This blog has been set up a little after planning began so this first post will gather together everything that has been done so far, beginning with a rough outline of our route. The first flight has been booked. It leaves Heathrow at 10.30am on Saturday 6th December 2014, flies via Kuwait, and lands at Indira Gandhi International in Delhi at 4.55am the next day. It's going to be a long but no doubt worthwhile flight. There is a part of me that is nervous about this flight because it has been booked via a travel agent called Crystal Travel, which receives variable reviews on the internet. They've contacted me one already about a slight change of flight times however so hopefully that's a good sign of their service and honesty. Last night we booked the ... read more

As dawn broke in Lowestoft it looks like summer has really deserted us as the sky is rather leaden and grey and there is a definite chill in the air as we checked the outside temperature by opening the hotel room window. So long trousers and jersey will be clothing of the day and I think it might be time to consign the sandals and shorts to the suitcase of things we will no longer need on the BBA V2. We are all self contained for breakfast and although we no longer have the microwave we do still have the toaster so toast and jam or peanut butter can still be on the menu for breakfast along with our muesli and yogurt. One thing they tend to skimp on at Travelodge hotels are 3 pin electrical ... read more
