A late rising compared to other mornings with washing to be done followed by ironing interspersed with a little reading. The afternoon was highlighted by the end-of-year concert by the pre-schoolers, Year 1 and Year 2 students at Mary’s Grand-daughters school. The hot conditions did not make it comfortable for students or adults, however the songs, poems and personal renditions from the students kept the minds of all in attendance focused on the performances more so than the temperature. Jane and I came away strongly disagreeing with the conclusion of the presentation as our educational value system is completely at odds with what occurred. Our views were backed-up by a few children being upset. Awarding trophy cups to 3 students of each level (smaller versions of premiership cups) to children aged 5, 6 and 7 is ... read more

For a number of periods during today and particularly during and after dinner we listened to wonderful yarns, stories, reminisces from over the many years by Rob and Mary. Punctuated by much laughter and fuelled by a “few” wines the stories were told with much description and action that Jane and I felt as if we were there watching all transpire, such was the passion emanating from both Rob and Mary. To be honest, we now see Rob in a vastly “different” light! Mary, we knew, at least that’s what Jane had said, was a wild one but now we’re sure Rob held his own when push came to shove. Yes, the stay with Rob and Mary is proving to be the best tonic we could have asked for and definitely a highlight of our journey ... read more

Waking to such beautiful morning, I left early by bike and cycled the stunning cycle ride that runs along a path through Wirral countryside and along the River Dee. I went for approximately 12 miles (20km) before turning around. It follows the track bed of part of the former Birkenhead Railway route from West Kirby to Hooton. I cycled past (in and out of) meadows, heathland and woodland. High stone bridges every few kilometres were passed under too. They added to the romanticism of the countryside. There was a huge variety of birdlife and numerous squirrels scurrying across or along the path. Running parallel to the cycle path is a narrow horse riding trail. It really is a unique area and offers easy access for all of the people who live along this section of the ... read more

There’s something about being back in a ‘familiar’ environment; Rob and Mary’s in Caldy, across the river from Liverpool. A relaxed, loving environment, a place to ‘put-the-feet-up’ for a little while with time to reflect on what we have experienced, seen and wondered at on these, our travels.... read more

A chance meeting of a stranger in the Kelpies of Falkrik park led me to this rather more-stranger and quirky-odd place called "Another Place" in Crosby beech in Liverpool ! What ever it might be but definitely NOT just an another place as the name suggests. It is a place where, literally one hundred naked-men statues stand in the beech looking at the sea and its horizon, as if contemplating about their next action - to do or not to do - what ever it might be. They just stand there in stoic-silence looking, kind of staring at the sea where the ships roll by effortlessly and off-shore windmills spin tirelessly. They are standing at different heights - the ones near the promenade are standing sunk up to their knees and as they go further towards ... read more

Thank goodness for Robert Elliott and Mary Elliott is all I can say. A very early start (4am) to the hectic few hours. More than hour on the bus to the airport and then the huge throng of fellow travellers to wind our way through to then find that our gate was the furthest to be reached all so we could be rewarded with a standing position in queue for our boarding. The ever reliable and very calm Rob was th...ere to meet and warmly greet us at Manchester. What I lke about Rob is that he is not a fuddy duddy driver pottering along at 80kph on the motorway. It was Daniel Ricciardo all the way and with me letting the team down badly by being sick we reached the welcoming arms of Mary in ... read more
