I was finally able to sleep in for once. I went down to see what the breakfast was going to be that the hotel was offering. For about £8 you had a choice of undercooked bacon, hash brown triangles, baked beans, toast, bagels, large pork sausage, somewhat runny scrambled eggs, and various cereals. Juice, tea, or coffee were the beverages. Typical English breakfast. So, I decided to walk up the street for about 5 minutes and grab a bite to eat at McDonalds. Yes, again! I have eaten more at McDonald's in the past 3 days than I have in America for the past 2 years! I grabbed a biscuit sandwich and a melon fruit bag (McDonalds offer various bags of fruit). I headed back to the hotel to catch up on some blogging. The Magical ... read more

Finally going to get another bucket item crossed off my list. After checking into the Ibis Hotel across from Albert Dock, I took a well deserved nap!! The room was spacious for me but I couldn't see two people living here. No TV but didn't need one. The only thing I forgot and didn't like is that while they have AC its not individually room control. Its a central unit on the roof. No problem I thought, I brought a small fan with me! The fan I brought sounded funny when I took it out of my suitcase. When I plugged it in using the adapters, it ran then stopped then started smelling like burnt wire. I quickly unplugged it to see small wisps of smoke coming from it. Luckily, the hotel had a large fan ... read more

May 31st So tired after flying for 14+ hours that I sat at the bus stop waiting for an hour for my shuttle before I realized I needed to call the hotel to send the shuttle! My room at the Hilton wasn't ready so went to the restaurant for something to eat. The waiter was extremely clumsy and spilled my G&T all over the table. He almost spilled the soup as well. All is well as my drinks were complimentary. I guess my server needs to work on his acrobatic serving skills? Finally got in the room showered and crashed. I did wake up in time to watch the IOM TV specials at 9pm ITV4. This would become important tomorrow... June 1st Picked up my VW Golf rental which was brand new with only 10 miles ... read more

My 2017 conference year started in early January—I went to the url=https://www1.bps.org.uk/events/conferences/division-occupational-psychology-annual-conference-2018/2017-conferenceAnnual Conference of the Division of Occupational Psychology (DOP) in Liverpool from 4th to 6th of January. My wonderful colleagues Lena and Richard, who were currently working in our London office, wanted to join me, so I decided to fly into London Heathrow and go up to Liverpool by car with them. It was a lengthy ride (with great company though) in which we discovered that it does not seem to be common to have service stations close to the motorway in the UK, which made fuelling up the car a little more time-consuming than we are used to, but finally we arrived in Liverpool. The conference hotel was located right at Albert Dock, thus in a nice location. The dock was considered a very ... read more

The trip on the Trans-Pennine express was flat from Hull to Leeds, and you could see the terrain that was once the floor of a tropical sea. West of Leeds there were undulating hills and some long tunnels as we crossed the Pennines, the spine of England. Wonderful landscape with the Peak district south of us and the Yorkshire Dales to the north. Walking out of Lime Street station one is on the Cultural Quarter - the grand St George’s Hall with four lions left over from Trafalgar square, (or was the tour bus guide kidding, with that irrepressible Scouse humour?), and St John's memorial park behind it commemorating different regiments, different wars, victims of persecution and pre-term babies, and the newest - the Hillsborough monument. The street beside this has the World Museum, the Walker ... read more

Well finally 26th July 2016 has arrived. After booking this flight before Christmas last year many things have changed in our travel plans. The most important change was Etihad bumped us but as compensation they offered us a free 5 nite stay in Hong Kong which of cause we thought great but little did we know how much this would throw the plans if started to make out the window!!!!!!! We jumped at the chance of this last minute change & started to plan now we would fit it in but I forgot to do 1 important thing change the hotel booking for our 1st nite in Tokyo & move it forwards by a day!!!! When did I realise this error yesterday morning as I was driving into work at 645am the day before we fly!!!! ... read more

How can something seem so far away and before you know it, it’s knocking on the door saying c’mon you ready! Five months ago I made a huge decision to follow my dreams on an 11 ½ hour flight all the way to China. I had wanted to travel Asia for as long as I could remember but plans always on hold for one reason or another. Well no more! I decided your nearly 30 Gemma just do it! So off I went to STA Travel and they presented me with this cool idea of teaching English while I travelled. Perfect let’s do it! Now as a rather analytical person this was the point I had a million questions how do I get a visa? What injections do I need? How much is everything? Absolute madness!! ... read more

Hi folks, so I am finally doing this. After years of saying, wow I'd love to travel, I am actually going ahead with it. Last Friday (29th January 2016) was my last day in work and today I head off on my first destination, Fiji :) On Fiji I meet up with some other volunteers and work on a marine conservation project. I will first learn diving and then be helping to carry out research on marine species living there to see how much of the coral and fish life there is. Sadly with impacts of over fishing, pollution and climate change a lot of marine life is dying out. Hopefully in this part of the world GVI (Global Vision International) hope to try to overcome this through education about the benefits of marine conservation and ... read more

Went into Liverpool for the day, visited the largest anglican cathedral in the world, it is well worth a visit. It has the tallest windows of any cathedral in the world. Then took a short walk to the catholic cathedral, it is the only round cathedral in the western world, there is another one in Brazlia the one in Liverpool was built on top of the foundations of what would of been the largest cathedral in the world, but because of the second world war there was no money left to finish it, so they built a much smaller one and made it round so more people could fit in. It has a nick name, called paddys wigwam. In the crypt there is door that has a large round stone that can be rolled into place ... read more
