In my haste I forgot my jacket....OH MY GOSH!!!!! I swear my spine was frozen!! Literally frozen!!! It was the kinda weather, that us Kiwis only ever hear about myths and only happens in far away lands! Yes well far away was right here for me and it is no myth!!! I swear I didn't fully warm up until I got into bed that night and snuggled into my duvet!!!!! Don't forget that I have to stand at a bus stop, a train station and two tram stations!!! Anywho enough about the English weather.....For quite a while my travel diaries will just be my random rants! ... read more

Monday the 25th of April, 2005 saw Sal and Mick arrive in Manchester via Heathrow, where they were met by Sal’s Aunty Margaret and cousin Ann. A short trip later on the motorway and the four arrived at Margaret and her husband John’s house in suburban Blackpool. Margaret and Ann are members of the Walsh clan of Northern England. Women of the Walsh clan are generally called Ann and the men, John. In order to distinguish between the various Ann’s and John’s, members of the Walsh clan refer to individual members as “Our Ann” and “Our John.” Unfortunately for outsiders seeking to understand conversations relating to the internal machinations of the Walsh clan, it appears that all members of the Walsh clan named Ann are referred to as “Our Ann” and similarly, all members named John ... read more

Nearly everything's gone, our tiny flat is empty and spacious again. Just a few more tasks to do and we're off. Then, hopefully, these entries will get slightly more interesting. The most exciting thing I've done this week is get an international driving permit. Now I can legally drive in Cambodia. Hurrah! Not that I was thinking about it. In fact, I probably won't. We bought an MP3 player this week and now I'm trying to cut down our 300+ albums to a choice of just 30. If I had a Room 101, it would involve this task. I've had to cut out so many indie riffs that I feel heartbroken. But, it's better than lumping around 300 CDs. And, at least I get to leave most of Gem's R&B safely locked away on the PC. ... read more
