These past couple of days have gone by in such a blur. It's hard to believe that it's been two weeks since I left home to come to this amazing city, and just about that long since I've decided that I'm moving here after college. I'm loving everything about London--there's always something to do and the atmosphere is just so much more laid back than America's. My first week as an intern at Openreach (British Telecom) is officially over. I've learned a lot about process engineering and systems management, as well as met a lot of really cool people. Also, my office is on the 10th floor with a 360 degree view of the heart of London, which is always a plus! I'm also starting to recognize people on my walk to work--there is one woman ... read more

Today I learned an important London Life Lesson--not all umbrellas are created equally. I thought I had a pretty sturdy umbrella until I saw people walking around with those cane-type umbrellas. I thought that was a little aggressive until it started to rain. It was quite the blustery day today and this silly old bear had no rain boots and my umbrella is now on the verge of being broken. On a happier note, today we went to go see Phantom of the Opera at none other than Her Majesty's Theatre. This theatre changes names every time a new king or queen comes in. So, when someone new takes over they get to choose the name of it. We sat pretty far back because we paid less than 20 pounds to see it, but we were ... read more

Oops this was supposed to be from yesterday...there are no updates from today just pretend you are reading this yesterday. Oh so many things to update the world about today I don't know where to start. Yesterday was our first day of our five week internship. Ayush and I left the dorms at 7:20 AM. I know you are all thinking, "wow, that's really early!" but not to worry--we did not actually get to work until 10:30 AM and got out of work at 2 PM. Determined not to waste the day or to lose the fight against diseases that is still currently raging in my kitchen, I decided to walk around London yesterday in search of cleaning supplies and a nondisposable fork and knife. I think Londoners must eat with their hands and feet because ... read more

I went into my kitchen today to take inventory of what was there and what I needed to buy and I had the upmost pleasure of finding raw chicken on the counter. I edged a step further to make sure my eyes were not deceiving me and to my pleasant surprise I saw the "eat before ___ date" was a solid 7 days ago. Yummy. While I'm not quite sure how long it has been there, the smell of the kitchen would suggest it's been there for a while. Although I'm having trouble differentiating the smell of rotting raw chicken from the smell of the fridge. I think the best part though is the smell is starting to creep out of the kitchen and getting ever so close to my room. When I went downstairs to ... read more

1987: The Triffids album Calenture with Jerdacuttup Man... "I live under glass in the British Museum, I am wrinkled and black, I am ten thousand years, I once lost in business, I once lost in love, I took a hard fall, I couldnt get up.... old and lonely, dirty and cold, I'm the Jerdacuttup man...." A hauntingly beautiful song referencing Lindow Man in the British Museum.... this was always an inspiring song to get me to travel to the British Museum... 1993 was my first visit there and thankfully I have been able to revisit on a number of occasions. Whenever I walk in & around the museum I have this song playing over in my mind. Thank you David McComb & The Triffids... 19 years later I am viewing Lindow Man again... welcomed by the ... read more

I think I'm finally getting into the swing of things...somewhat. My iPhone hasn't set itself to London time because I have it on airplane mode to avoid getting charged 50 million dollars for international fees. However, my iPhone is my alarm clock so in order to set my alarm I have to figure out what time I need to get up and convert it to California time. I think I was off by about an hour because my alarm didn't go off this morning and I scrambled to get ready for the day. Anyways, they took us to the British museum today. I really like how almost every museum in London is free--it makes me feel much more enticed to go. Also, most of my experiences with museums were from my elementary and middle school days ... read more
