I awoke to another sunny morning, although the Welsh Gate Inn owner said the rain was heavy during the evening, as was the winds. Nothing noticed on my end, as I seem to sleep well after 100km rides, up and down hills, and the winds and rains. While sitting at the restaurant window having breakfast, I spied a steady stream of vehicles with one or two student passengers on their way to school. Each passenger appeared to be zoned out or looking resigned to the prospects of another school day ahead. I managed to get on an old repurposed rail line, but I had to make a slight detour, as I was routed to a bridge crossing about 60ft above, but with sheer walls on each side below and no trail link, that wasn't going to ... read more

The Cotswolds deserve their reputation. Everything you've heard about them is probably true, even the cliche's! Yes they are quintessentially English, they are post card picturesque, they are the playground for the well to do and the 'Champagne Charlies' from the cities, the are quaint, charming and really quite beguiling and yes every village does serve cream teas, pork pies, fish and chips, pasties (which they pronounce nothing like we don't!) and ice-creams but not all at once! From Chipping Campden via Stow on the Wold, Long Compton and Little Compton, Upper Slaughter and Lower Slaughter to Bourton on the Water Even the place names are enchanting! Apart from not being able to see over the hedgerows for half the journey the drive is delightful. We keep off the main arterial roads which means frequent 'disorientations' ... read more
Chipping Campden. Probably my favourite Cotswold village.
Bourbon on the Water. Second favourite?
Chipping Campden Main Street.

It's early blog time having just gone midday. Just completed a little cheese and biscuit snack whilst sitting in the garden of our BnB in the SUNSHINE. It is almost warm here and really quite pleasant. The morning was spent in delightful Moreton on Marsh doing our laundry. But really that's just putting it in the machine, working out how to get laundry powder and how to turn the machine on. But really really that's just giving it to Lee then going for a walk around the town. We did though go to Broadmoor Tower, the highest tower in the Cotwalds (bit like saying I was the best long jumper in kindergarten). I walked there when I walked the Cotswald Way and it is a bit of a destination spot. Now it's walk time for me ... read more
Chipping Campden, the tradition breakfast shot (you can't call a breakfast like this brekkie!).
Guess what's on today's?
But there is also the obligatory tower.

Thought I'd write my first ever blog entry to get some practice. My flight leaves London Gatwick at 10am on Saturday 24th June. I am currently trying to work out what I need to take and what I actually have room for. This is quite tricky as I am flying to Delhi and then joining an organised tour with, I believe 9 other people catching a train north to Kalka at the start of the foothills where I transfer to a 'toy' train as they call them in India. This will take up to Shimla. This is a narrow gauge train taking some five hours. The 97km train trip passes through 103 tunnels, 18 stations and over 24 bridges. Fifty years in the making, this incredible feat of engineering was completed in 1897. Then after we ... read more

Geo: 50.9085, -0.534013First full day in UK. After overnighting at LHR I picked up a car and drove down to Sussex, chosing the classic scenic route (via Chiddingfold, Petworth, Halnaker) which showcased England's 'green and pleasant land' with lots of spring blossom and flowers out.Staying in Felpham with Jane & Pete, Emma, Claire & Digby dog. A real treat in the afternoon - Afternoon Tea at Amberley Castle to celebrate the birthdays of both Jane and myself. Amberley Castle stands on land that was gifted to the local Bishopric in 683 AD and the Doomsday Book records that Amberley had 17 villagers and 25 smallholders at that time. The structure was originally a timber-framed hunting lodge built in 1103 by Bishop Luffa of Chichester but in 1140 it was replaced by a more elaborate stone hall. Geo: 51.8667, -2.24867Set alarm for 05:30 but we are both awake before then. I pop to 7/11 for coffees to accompany our croissants as we finalise our packing arrangements.Check-out about 06:30 and take a taxi to Suvarnabhumi. There had been an accident on the superhighway and traffic was moving slowly but at least it was still moving. We are still at the airport not much after 07:00 before our check-in desks have been announced. We settle down near the BA area and wait for the check-in to open.Drop off bags then go towards departure lounge. The place is full of Chinese travellers again who have little idea of queueing and manners ... they definitely need their own terminal !! Really long queues through security but once we reach immigration I dodge the crowds and pass through ... read more

Geo: 51.8667, -2.24867Leave home and walk round to the bus stop, dragging my case, at 09:30. As usual coach appears on time but nearly drives right past me and it is only frantic waving that attracts the driver's attention. As he has gone past the bus stop I have to walk up the road a bit before boarding. That is the end of the excitement for this part of the journey though as the drive to Heathrow is uneventful. I now know that 10 mins after we are due to arrive at the Central Bus Station a coach leaves for Woking by way of Terminal 5. Only 10mins is too close to book tickets on this service but they have always been happy to take me anyway and today is no exception. Arrive at T5 before ... read more

Ive travelled long, Ive travelled wide Searching deep for peace inside We travelled together, I travelled alone Yet could not find that place called home....... Its been 38 years since I first went in search of something. At 18 years old I didnt know such deep concepts as 'home', for me it was adventure, culture, learning that called. Leaving home was, well not really a big deal. Untill now. My first trip was to NZ, via Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, and somewhere that Ive forgotten now. Over the years Ive globe trotted here and there, and yes I guess on reflection not only was I exploring new environments, meeting new people, discovering new ways of being I was also discovering different aspects of myself. There would be places and people I felt really touched by, feeling that ... read more

Geo: 51.8667, -2.24867Not much sleep last night and I awake when the alarm goes off at 05:30.Out to 7/11 for a coffee and croissants for breakfast whilst I pack up again.Check-out at 06:30 then have the quickest journey I have ever had to the airport arriving at 07:10 with 4 1/2 hours now to wait. I've known the taxi ride to take up to 2 hours so always allow myself plenty of time but ...Way too early for the flight check-in to be open so find a seat in a quietish corner and get a book out. It already feels as though it has been a long day and there is still about 22 hours to go till I get home ... deep joy !I check-in as soon as the counter opens then make my way ... read more

Geo: 51.9301, -1.72382 So, yesterday we headed out to Blenheim Palace to look around. It was about a 25 minute drive. So far, I have not hit anything, including Stacy. Ha,ha. I did make one error though. A woman slowed so we could turn right from a side street. I was so intent on watching her that I just turned without looking to the right. A van was coming and he braked and honked at me as I pulled out in front of him. Whoops!!! We arrived at Blenheim Palace in one piece and went inside. This palace is the only palace that is owned by a private citizen. Actually, Winston Churchill was born here. His parents were visiting the 9th Duke of Marlborough at the palace when she went into labor. Winston Churchill is buried ... read more
