Typical start to the day…breakfast at our hotel. We then went for a walk along the sea. We were looking for a set of steps called Grannies Teeth. It was supposed to be on a rock wall called The Cobb. It was a beautiful day for a walk. It was a shame this wasn’t the weather we had the day before! We walked out to the end of the Cobb (walked right by the steps) and didn’t see the steps till on the way back!! We walked up the hill to a pastry shop to buy snacks and water for the train. We learned that southwest trail way didn’t offer drinks and snacks to anyone. They didn’t have a dining car. So we went prepared. What we weren’t prepared for was the amount of times we ... read more

So our hotel room included breakfast this morning, or we could order off the menu. The breakfast menu as fresh fruit, bread, yogurt, meats and cheeses, croissants, muffins, coffee and tea. It was all excellent Immediately following breakfast we went out walking along the beach and edge of town. Aside from the wind, you couldn’t ask for more perfect weather. This is an interesting seaside town. I imagine it is overrun with visitors in the summer. One section of the beach has pebbles, then you find the sand. If you walk far enough you find stones instead of sand or pebbles. Along all the beaches are little houses that you rent for cabanas. Some people had theirs open and were setting up chairs, or having their morning coffee or tea. We were truly surprised to see ... read more

This morning we had our usual hotel breakfast and then headed back upstairs to our room for packing up and checking out. Flavio was so gracious to allow us to leave our big suitcases there while we make this side trip to what is known as the Jurassic Coast of England. So we won’t have to drag two suitcases and a bag with us! So the challenge is packing everything you brought with everything you bought and not exceed 50 lbs. this time I packed an extra duffel bag Marsha bought us on me if our other trips. When we get to the airport hotel, I may have to transfer some stuff over and check two bags!! I dragged my big bag downstairs….did I fail to mention there were 70 steps up to our room? It ... read more

Leaving behind the beauty of Lulworth Cove we keep heading west towards Cornwall and stop in the seaside town of Lyme Regis. The town is your typical seaside town, it even has the buntings zig zagging the high street! We first strolled down to the seafront which was mostly a rock plateau. We followed the foot path along the waters edge until we reached the start of the high street and the pebbled beach. The town is pleasant and has many bakeries, ice cream parlours, pubs and gift shops, its what you expect from a British seaside resort town. We looped our away around the quaint back streets, one of which was very pretty with a little stream running parallel to the lane we walked up. Eventually our wanderings brought us back to our motor home ... read more

For our last sidetrip, we met our cousin, who lives in Dartmouth, at a halfway point. We originally planned to meet in Lyme Regis, but as Friday was a day off from school and the weekend was a bank holiday weekend, we thought it would be too busy. So we decided on Charmouth, just a little northeast of Lyme Regis, but still a fossil hunting spot along the Jurassic Coast. We figured it would be a peaceful place to hangout and catch up, and that the boys and her two kids would like it. As a geologist, I was super excited myself and my dad was too (he majored in geology himself). I don't know a geology student who has not heard of the Jurassic Coast, an area that exposes rock formations from the Triassic, Jurassic ... read more

This weekend two of my house mates and I went to Lyme Regis. Emily, Ali and I had such a good time exploring Lyme. Jane Austen's novel, Persuasion, is partial based in Lyme. We loved going to the Cobb and walking though we almost got blown off the top. Getting to Lyme was very crazy. We went to Salisbury but then when we got onto the next train we did not know that the first 3 cars split off and went where we wanted to go while the back cars went back towards Bath. So we ended up on the wrong train and had to get off at this little town called Warminster. It was out in the middle of no where and the next train coming through was around 10:15 or so but the train ... read more
