So we're off a week tomorrow. We have a lovely 30 hour journey to get there and in typical Ellie fashion she has bought so many pointless things to get her through this! Sami is spending her time searching for Lion and Tiger cub photos and nearly crying in the process. We're staying on a private game reserve between Port Elizabeth and Grahamstown on the eastern cape of South Africa. Here's the link if any of you want to see it: www.kwantu.co.za We have no idea what to expect but have both said riding an Elephant is a must!... read more

So, it's 7.00am on 3rd June and it's just dawned on me I won't see a bed until about 10pm on 4th June. Going to be a long day. Lying in bed at my parents convinced I've forgotten something... and in all likelihood I have forgotten something. Passport and boarding passes will get me to Kota Kinabalu, and reassuring myself as such, will reduce the paranoia i'm going through. I've never done anything like this before and am ridiculously excited/ f'ing terrified. Never been to any part of Asia, never been to the jungle and never done much camping/ living outside. Got a feeling I'm in for a rude awakening. Today's part of the adventure takes me to the Dr's for my final shot, manchester airport, Doha, Singapore, and finally Kota Kinabalu. As long as I ... read more

We have been home now three weeks and PMT is kicking in. Not the sort you associate with women of a certain age but Post Motorhome Travel. You wake up every morning and feel a certain amount of disappointment to see the same view from out of the window, the weather seems distinctly Autumnal and the urge to travel again is strong. The weather has been awful since coming home. Nothing but incessant rain. It feels as if we have run headlong from Spring straight into Winter again with none of the heady days of Summer in between. Perhaps next year will be better. The washing of the outside of the van took three weeks to start. Waiting for a dry day in between the rain seemed like waiting for that bus or train that never ... read more

We woke up this morning to another glorious day! That makes three days in a row of blue skies and sunshine which is a rare thing indeed here in England. Since the weather was so beautiful we decided to drive back down to Congleton to visit some more NT properties in that area. Our first stop was at Mow Cop Folly - the ‘ruin’ that we could see last Sunday from Little Moreton Hall. Edna is still earning her keep as she managed to guide us to Mow Cop without any trouble. Unfortunately, Mow Cop is not a NT property that is in her database so she could not get us right to the folly - just to the village of Mow Cop. That was a bit frustrating as we could then see the folly up ... read more

After a good night’s sleep we awoke to a glorious morning. It was bit early for Kath and Albert to be up and about so we dragged out our maps and guides and started trying to decide where we could visit to take advantage of the great weather. We thought about heading down to Stoke-on-Trent, but then noticed a couple of National Trust properties near Congleton that sounded like they might be worth a visit. After a full English breakfast Albert asked us what we might like to do with the day. We told him that we thought it might be nice to go for a drive down to Little Moreton Hall, a Tudor manor house, near Congleton. Albert thought that sounded OK so we planned to head off straight after a quick visit to the ... read more

Well, its 2 days to go before I set off on my trip to Hong Kong and Australia. It has finally hit me that I am going to be away for rather a long time, and I am starting to get a little scared...but still pretty excited about my trip. My bag is pretty much packed, but I still have a couple more things to squeeze in, which will no doubt mean extracting a few non-essential things to leave behind too. I have set up this blog to track my journey as I travel about down under and to keep you all posted on my progress. I look forward to receiving your posts and comments too, so please keep in touch. For those of you I leave behind in the UK, I will miss you all ... read more
