Kia Ora! I have hopped across the waters to the lovely land of the Kiwi and have enjoyed a beautiful couple of weeks exploring the North Island. I have been staying with some members of extended family, Mike and Tina, just North of Auckland and it has been wonderful to enjoy some home comforts for a little while. I also took a Tiki tour around on a Stray bus visiting lots of amazing places en route: the Coromandel Peninsula (Cathedral Cove and Hot Water beach), the beautiful surf town of Raglan (New Zealand’s answer to Byron Bay), Waitomo Caves where I went black water tubing and spied many a glow worm, a night in a Maori meeting house where I watched the haka be performed...a scary performance given by some true Maori boys, and then a ... read more

G'day once again! My, it has been a while since I last blogged! Here we are at the end of February...summer is coming to and end and plans are being made for the next stage of my trip, so I felt I should perhaps update you all. As for happenings in Melbourne over the past couple of months, I have had a very standard weekly routine of working at the cafe Monday to Friday, finishing at 3pm in time for the occasional trip to the beach or Albert Park to catch the last of the days rays, or alternatively heading to my room for a power nap, before Neighbours time, then, a couple of nights a week, working at the hostel for a few hours. Sundays are spent cleaning the hostel with my bestest buddies in ... read more

Hello! I'm back where I began this trip around Australia...good old Melbourne, St Kilda, and its just as lovely as I remember, if not lovelier due to the sunshine. Summer is well on its way and its difficult to believe its Christmas in just a few days! Where to begin my update of where I've been and what I've done?...here goes an attempt to be concise - Cairns to Alice on a Greyhound, 33hours on a bus...epic, but not overly traumatic, saw a whole heap of nothingness along the way, you really ae in the middle of nowhere out there. Alice itself was a dive of a town, not particularly safe, so I didnt venture out too much for the 2 days I was there, very odd place. Next was the Adventure Tours trip Alice to ... read more

As my time in Cairns comes to a close, I thought it time to update you one last time about the happenings here in Far North Queensland. My work in Port Douglas came to a rather abrupt end after about 3 and a half weeks. The school holidays came to an end and there was no longer such high demand for housekeeping staff, so that was that. Thankfully I had kept up my Baskin Robbins duties, and the week I finished in Port Douglas, on of the Baskins girls left, so I could increase my hours once again. I also resumed my working for accommodation at the hostel, and was quickly promoted to the position of head of housekeeping - with the added bonus of getting 2 days off a week, with accommodation fully paid for...sweet ... read more

Hey hey! Still in Cairns, just incase you were wondering whether I'd dropped off the other side of the planet. Been working super hard lately, 18hours some days, but its allowing me to save some pennies and although I'm constantly tired, I'm actually still enjoying myself. About a month ago I lost my job at the hostel working for accommodation and panicked cos I couldnt afford to pay rent...so I went on a major job hunting mission and found myself a new job the same day! Amazing what you can do when you put your mind to it (and will take any job going!). Only issue was the job is in Port Douglas (about an hours drive north of Cairns), but this actually worked to my advantage as they needed someone to drive the staff bus ... read more

Well life aint bad when you can sunbathe everyday in the middle of winter. I've been in Cairns for over month now, enjoying the hot sunny weather and trying to get my head around the fact that we are just coming to the end of Winter, and the hot weather is yet to come. Its been a while since I've blogged and to be honest there isnt too much exciting news to report. I have been living a relatively quiet life, trying to save up some money, but failing rather miserably. I have been spending my time cleaning at the hostel each morning for free accomodation and also working as an ice cream lady at Baskin Robbins. When not working I can usually be found louging around by the pool or down at the lagoon, or ... read more

Hello again! Well I did it! A total of 4000km on the Greyhound...I've lost count of the number of hours I've lost to the bus journey but it was a lot and I'm glad I finally made it! So I'm now in Cairns and have managed to get myself a job working for accomodation again, which is pretty sweet. Now I just need to find a job that will earn me some money then all will be good. I haven't decided how long I'm staying here yet, depanding on how the job hunt goes it could be anything from 2 weeks to 2 months! I guess I should update you on the last leg of my trip - Brissy to Cairns. Well as the title of my blog hints I have seen lots of very blue ... read more

I learned to surf in Byron, partied in Surfer's Paradise and have now reached Brisbane. As I have progressed up the East Coast the weather has got progressively warmer and the water bluer. I'm now staying in Brisbane with Emma. She is here studying for a month staying at her superviser's house while he is away on holiday. (I'm not sure how he is supervising whilst on a different continent...but that's beside the point). He has been kind enough to let me stay at his house too, so I am once again enjoying home comforts...I feel I am cheating a little at this whole backpacking lark! Its fantastic though, free accommodation and thanks to Emma's housemate, a Korean post doctorate named Kitchol, amazing food! Tonight he showed how a barbeque should be done, Korean style, and ... read more

G'day! Well I saw the sights of Sydney, briefly visited Newcastle and the surounding Hunter Valley, and have now made my way up to Byron Bay to enjoy some hippie beach life. Sydney was crazy, very much a whistle stop tour. I saw the famous Harbour Bridge and Opera House, roamed around the rocks, walked from Bondi to Coogee beach, took a trip to the beautiful Blue Mountains, saw some wild Kangaroos, took the ferry out to Manly and saw bats at the Botanical gardens. While I was there I also caught up with some old friends. Laura Ball, a friend from school is now living in Sydney and 3 of my friends from my trip to America who I met at Camp Echo are also now living there and we met up for Independance Day ... read more

Well hello there! Its been a while...but I've been very busy enjoying myself in Melbourne. Going for runs along the beach, more bike rides by the sea, meeting the cast of Neighbours, going to Ramsay Street, mooching about in Museums and Art Galleries, cheering at an Aussie Rules game at the MCG...the list goes on... Today is a sad day, I leave for Sydney...and I love Melbourne so much I dont want to! It doesnt help that I have a 12 hour overnight Greyhound ride to look forward to before I get there too. Got a couple of people I'm meeting up with in Sydney though, so not all bed, and I will be back in Melbourne before I leave Oz. I'll keep this blog short and sweet and tell my story through pictures...See below!... read more
