DAYS 21-24 On Thursday (12.3.09) we were up at 6am to head to the ferry to take us to Hollyheads in Wales. This ferry ride took us a total of 3 and half hours. Once we docked it took us 2 hours to drive to our hotel in Chester which is just south of Manchester. The hotel was called Holiday Inn. Here we caught up with my cousin Gill and two of her kids Ryan and Shane. All of which I haven’t seen in over 10 years, since I was 12!!! While we were there my aunty Joan, Gill and I hit the retail outlet shops while my uncle Eric, Ryan and Daniel (4 years old) went to Chester zoo which is the largest and best in all of UK. Shane and the other soccer boys ... read more

Hi everyone! Welcome to my travel blog! Myself and George are making the final preparations before we leave on the 27th December for Sao Paulo before flying onto Lima, Peru. We had intended to fly straight onto Peru on 28th but the flights were £200 cheaper if we waited 2 days so we arrive in Lima on 30th... just in time for New Year! From there we are travelling around peru for about 3 weeks with Jon before heading down to Argentina through Bolivia, Paraguay and parts of Brazil. After 2 months in South America we head on over to NZ where we travel the North and South Islands in a campervan with my mum, who will be doing 4 weeks in NZ and 1 week in sydney with me before flying home. From Sydney we ... read more

We took a short train ride over to the English border on 14 November (celebrating the anniversary of when we started dating (11/17--aww, I know) and getting out of the house-of-schoolwork for a while. It was perfect in every way. Not only is the city beautiful but the weather turned out to be sunny and 60ish, and in the middle of Chester was a giant city park with yellow and red LEAVES everywhere! Our fellow Ohioans might take these for granted (or maybe you miss them already? Fall comes a little later here) but here on the coast we get very little color change and certainly not enough falling to even kick your feet through. Don't get me wrong--we love this windy, rocky coast, but it doesn't look or feel too Fally. But in the park ... read more

So I had an interesting time getting back to the UK the day before yesterday..... I had booked a flight on Ryanair to leave Paris at 10:50pm and arrive in Glasgow at 11:20pm UK time. While I was waiting for the bus to go the airport, I met an Australian couple who mentioned that they thought they were going to miss the bus they booked from the airport to the downtown area, and was I willing to share a cab if the bus had already left? Sounded good to me, as I had no idea how I was getting out of the airport. Well, the best laid plans...... Tom and Laura were really nice, and we chatted while awaiting our flight, which was running late. We got seats together on the plane, and I should have ... read more

To Chester I came in April 2008 with some friends. This town is a bit similar to York and first settlement had found there during Roman Empire had been ruling England. We walked around old town and we saw a castle. This town also possess city walls, but these are partly demolished and finally Chester's city walls are less visible than city walls in York. ... read more

One of the coolest women I have ever known is called Jane Barnard. The mother of my friend Joe, she is one of the woman I aspire to be as I grow older. She raised four sons, one of whom was killed in a tragic accident. She has lived all over the world and she worked at Joe’s company until she was well into her 80’s. One night, years ago, I was in Dallas visiting Joe (he and I used to work together). After a day at the office, we all went out for drinks. I was debating what to order and Jane looked at me askance. In her beautiful, genteel southern accent, she announced that if I was not yet drinking martinis, she was going to introduce me to them. So - my first martini ... read more

This royal throne of kings, this sceptred isle, This earth of majesty, this seat of Mars, This other Eden - demi-paradise - This fortress built by nature for herself Against infection and the hand of war, This happy breed of men, this little world, This precious stone set in the silver sea, Which serves it in the office of a wall, Or as a moat defensive to a house Against the envy of less happier lands; This blessed plot, this earth, this realm, this England. --William Shakespeare, “Richard II” As promised, I got through all the personal admin - but not until 11.00 this morning. I had grand plans of coming in yesterday afternoon to finish it all up, but the sun was shining and I was loving “Richard II”, so I decided the afternoon called ... read more

Monday 31 March 2008 Our little Ka (photo) was quite comfortable and easy to drive. It made it easier on Michael that Britain drives on the left hand side of the road. We also received some helpful advice about safe driving from the road atlas that we bought from the service station (photo). With a car, maps, sunshine, Cadbury Cream Eggs to fuel the driver, and music we set off on our big road trip (photo). The road signs still puzzled us though (photo). Our first stop was Chester in Cheshire on the English-Welsh border. The town was very attractive as most of the town centre is restored historic buildings (photos). Many of the old shops and residences were built stacked on top of one another in an odd fashion that has caused the central district ... read more
