Day 27 - Who needs a map? After breakfast and checking out of our hotel we headed west to Ruislip, a community that Tony found that is within easy travel to the offices in London. Unfortunately we found out that Anne's Phone stopped receiving Data some time in the last few days and the map didn't work anymore. We had to navigate the old fashioned way, using road signs. Tony's good memory and Anne's sharp eye got us in the right direction and we found Ruislip without too much difficulty. It's a nice town with some interesting areas, definitely a possibility. Next it was on to Reading for lunch very Kindly hosted by Ben and Katie. Tony had worked with Ben last time he was in Windsor. They have two children Michelle's age that are just ... read more

All packed and ready to go. Me (TP) and Welshy just brushing our teeth before our last sleep in the UK for more than 3 months. Our flight is nice and early tomorrow morning so we shall be meeting the boys at the crack of dawn at Heathrow. I don't think it has quite set in yet that in 36 hours time we shall be taking our first steps in the South American continent however every now and then a rush of excitement hits me. Santiago, Chile is our first stop where according to the weather guide we should be expecting low temperatures - around 10oC - and rain. It appears that after travelling halfway round the world the better weather may for once be back home! Not much has been planned for Chile yet but ... read more

So I am all set and ready to go... NEARLY. So flights are booked and work all finished. I have planned where I will be stopping on my trip to Aus. I am going to start in Perth with family for just over two weeks. Then I am going to fly across to Melbourne where my buddy Rach is. I am going to have 1-2 weeks there and enjoy exploring and planning to stay in St Kilda. I will then work my way up to Sydney where I will spend the majority of my time 2-3 weeks. I am going to visit the Sydney Opera House, sky tower, harbour bridge and bondi beach!!! I will then work my way up the gold coast to Brisbane for my final stop. I will then fly home from there. ... read more

Today it was the day. This was my first trip, ever. It was a long day, started at 5 am (Dutch time) when my alarm waked me up. We had to leave at 6 am. However, I was so excited, that I didn't sleep that well. Together, with a friend, Hans we booked a trip by Effeweg (Dutch organization) to the South (East) of England, called "Highlights of South-England". This was an 8 day trip were we should visit London, Oxford, Winchester and Stonehenge, and many more! Also, breakfast and diner was included. After my parents picked up Hans, we went to Nijmegen, where the bus should pick us up. Here, there was a check-in point, where a bus of Effeweg should came. Here, we could check in, and the bus brought us to the central ... read more

Hi all the flight home was good, the airport in Lagos was unusually quiet - rumour has it that this is because it was early morning! when I sat in the seat on the plane a woman asked me if I would mind changing places with her daughter so they could sit together - I looked and her daughter was about 5 years old so I couldnt deny it even if the seat I was moving to was rubbish, when I moved there I sat next to a rather large woman who said to me in a very strong Nigerian Accent "I would rather you didnt sit there we wont have enough space" she was right... so I chatted to one of the stwardesses and told her the situation and I was offered either an upgrade ... read more

Friday night we made it through Accra's new improved security and immigration and I will agree it was alot easier than last time, the flight home was pretty uneventful which to be honest is probably the best flights :) I slept for most of it. I made it home about 7.30am just in time for out Ikea bookshelves to be delivered and then I slept in my own bed for a few more hours... bliss later in the day it snowed it started to get heavy and it was laying as well, overnight it got heavier and we had about 7inches of snow which wasnt too bad but alot of flights were cancelled at heathrow so I thanked the lord that I had come back Saturday morning and not Sunday. back to work tommorow, the weekend ... read more

If I am lucky there will be no power cuts and the runway lights will be on and this time no one will think I have a dead body in my suitcase (resus doll). Yep I am heading back to Africa, this time Ghana... I am returning to Ghana for a week, on arrival I will stay in Accra for one night and then travel to Takoradi with Gideon - my Ghanaian colleague and will meet Mike there a few days later , here at my destination my internet connection may be almost impossible therefore my blogs may be sparse. My assignment here is to provide first aid training to staff. On speaking to a volunteer coordinator at First Aid Africa earlier last year she gave me some sound advice. Teaching the population how to recognise ... read more

Many people of my age (same age as concorde - you do the math) will remember growing up watching emaciated Ethiopian children with pot bellies on the Childrens BBC Newsround program in the 1980’s and 1990’s, with songs like Feed the world and Heal the world making it big in the charts and we all did fun runs, 24hour famines and bring and buy sales to reach that Blue Peter target to send rice to these families, but as young children we always asked the same question “Dad, if they are starving why are they fat?” We now watch Lenny Henry and other comedians every March who make us laugh with their comedy and cry with their pictures of these same children and we phone and donate because we feel guilty for laughing on our comfy ... read more

Hi all, arrived safely home into the UK, the flight was a bit bumpy, not helped by the African lady sitting next to me who was flying for the first time in her life who kept poking me to say "are we nearly there yet?" as she gripped tight onto the seat in front of her... I have just had my Pizza for Joes Friday night Pizza night (Joe makes pizza for us every friday) and I have caught up on my desperate housewives - Priorities, right? I was also pleased to discover I lost weight while I was alway, only 6lbs but its going the right way! Back to Slough on monday to prepare certificates and do the admin for the last 2 weeks and to prepare for the lads coming from Africa to the ... read more
